2012 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!

I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.

Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!

Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?

Good news for me too today! Congrats to everyone out there, and chin up for folks that didn't make it this year. Take it from me, this is my third year applying :/

It looks like San Francisco is receiving their letters. I'm still waiting for mine in Millbrae. I wonder if an application date has anything to do with it. I submitted mine the very last day. So... maybe it plays some role. They just physically cannot mail all letters at the same time. So my thinking is that they are going down the list in the processing order or calendar order versus alphabetical. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify my empty mailbox ;-))) I feel so lame... where is my letter?!!! Where is my interview invitation?!!! (only positive thinking)

Hi, I live in Sacramento, and usually mail only takes a day! I'm nervous, and I have a flight to the East Coast for an interview but I hope the mailman comes with good news before I leave!!

I know with UPenn (where I'm going to interview), they emailed people for interviews across a whole week. It seemed like they did them in batches by specialty..maybe that's what they're doing here! After all, it probably takes a while to send personalized letters and triple-check they're sending them to the right people, etc. CROSSING FINGERS!!! Gluck everyone!!

I just got my ANP/AGNP rejection letter today. I'm disappointed but not surprised, was pretty much already planning to reapply next year. At least I will have more time to save up for UC tuition =)

My letter was dated December 6th and says they had about 500 applicants this year and 125 were selected to interview. Does 500 seem like fewer applicants than previous years? Oh, and my online application status still says "Under Review"

Time to schedule my next GRE exam!

I'm so sorry, ucsf82. Their loss, I'm sure.

500 does seem like fewer applicants than previous years, but 125 also seems like fewer interviewees, so their ratio is probably steady.

Rejected. Will take nutrition this semester and reapply next year. Maybe better, since I'm having a baby in March and my husband just lost his job. Now I know I can focus on parenting/making money for the next year.

I definitely want to find out how to make an appt. to learn how my app was weak and how to improve it next time. I suspect I had less volunteerism and foreign language than some applicants, though my grades and GRE were very high. I also wonder whether my statements were too long, and whether I take a hit for not being from an underprivileged enough background. No bitterness - just weighing all the possibilities. Oh well.

Congrats to the interviewees, buck up to this year's rejectees, and good luck to us all!

Kelly

Still nothing on my end. Argh!

Rejected too. =(

:( I'm so sorry to hear that, FNPHopeful.

UPenn is awesome - I wish I could have applied there but I didn't have the prereqs. Good luck in your interview!!

Just ripped open my letter....Good News!!! Interview Friday Jan. 27th for FNP.

Anyone else heard???

Congrats dedicatedone, I am also interviewing on the 27th! Anyone else interviewing on the 27th?

Specializes in FNP.

last year my letter stated that there were over 600 applicants and 150 were chosen to interview for 84 spots. Maybe the number of apps did go down this year...??!!

I have an interview on the 27th as well!
