The MEPN deadline is less than 2 months away, so I thought I'd get a thread started for us 2012 hopefuls!
I'm a first time applicant to the WHNP/CNM specialty, and feel like I've been getting ready to submit this application for so long! I've been working abroad for a public health NGO for the past couple of years and am a trained birth doula. I've finished up all of my prereqs and GREs, selected people for recommendations (including a slightly awkward visit to my undergraduate advisor...), so now I'm just drafting my essays. Does anyone even know what the application is supposed to look like this year? I'm just going off samples I've seen from previous years.
Some days I feel sort of confident about my chances, and other days I feel as though this is a total shot in the dark and definitely not going to work out!
Any other hopefuls out there? And anyone know when the application is actually going to open?
Agree w/ Myelin! This is my fourth time applying to nursing programs and after constantly getting rejected everywhere I applied to in the past, I didn't expect to get an interview for UCSF (since this was my "shoot for the universe" school). There were times I even wanted to give up pursuing nursing. But lo and behold!
Point is not to give up and you may never know, some things may be blessings in disguise
I live in SF and got my letter Friday after work - rejection. Made for a crappy weekend.
What I don't understand is their rubric for choosing folks to interview. I applied last year, got an interview, AND was 3rd on the waiting list. This year - nothing. Seriously? I even beefed up my experience by working in rural Kenya over the summer.
ah well...I must continue my volunteer work, pick up a new language, re-take the GRE, AND take nutrition for next year's application...
Congratulations to all who received interviews and good luck!!

Last year when I thought I was totally going to get an interview I got denied. It was a blessing in disguise. I decided to take more classes and I feel even more confidant than last year. Plus another year in the ER never hurts... If I had gotten in last year I would have been overwhelmed though I didn't think so at the time!
If you got denied, call UCSF in February and ask to speak with someone about your application and feedback to make it better for next year. The lady on the phone initially said they don't provide feedback on apps but I persisted..... well actually insisted, and it paid off!
Hey Everyone
So I called UCSF today because I have not gotten my letter yet and apparently they sent it over a week ago, so it possibly has gotten lost in the mail. I know mail has been a bit questionable lately since they have cut cost so for those of you that have not gotten their letter, you may want to double check with UCSF. They are going to send out another letter today for me, crossing my fingers this one makes it to me!
KKandes, I live in Seattle and just received my letter yesterday...maybe you'll get yours today???
Interestingly, in my letter they offered me an interview to a specialty I did NOT apply for...so I couldn't celebrate last night because I was confused. How anti-climactic! I contacted the office when it opened this morning, and received confirmation that I did get an interview for specialty I actually applied for. Whew!
Anybody else getting excited for interviews? Flights purchased? Hotels? I just booked my flight yesterday. Are you guys planning on going to the informal session on Saturday morning? Last year I remember people were debating over what to wear and I think someone said they didn't feel a suit was absolutely necessary? I hope not. I'm hoping I can get away with dress pants, a nice blouse, and a professional jacket.
Super excited! And a bit overwhelm because I have so many other things going on at once! I purchased my flight ticket the week after I received my letter and just booked my hotel yesterday! The only thing I have to worry about is prepping for the interview and contemplate about what to wear for the interview. Also planning on going to the informal session as well :)
