Hi,
Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?
I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.
But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?
Hi Kate-Check your (physical) mail because from reading other's posts, those that were accepted or denied were directed to an online email, but those waitlisted (such as myself) were sent a physical letter via snail-mail.

You were right on, Tanya. I'm pretty far from SF so I guess it just took a few days longer. I still have hope that I can join you in June !! (though the chances are not looking good)
miss_mimi -
when I saw that others were getting notification and I hadn't heard anything days later, I got in touch with Steven Johnson. I asked about the chances and he told me that 1 person got off the ANP 2 years ago and no one last year.
but ANP is only 6 spots so your chances for FNP are way better with 15 spots!!
Hi all, just wanted to add a little ray of hope here - I was #1 on the waitlist for the ANP track for the 2009-2010 year and was granted acceptance 13 days before classes began! Even if you don't believe you're going to get in make sure to do all of your financial aid paperwork! Very important! Also, I know that #4 on the queue was admitted to the midwifery track a few months before school started. Finally, if you don't make it off the waitlist this year be sure to reapply next year, as your chances improve each time, from what I hear. Best to all of you!
You could probably email them to ask about the history for FNP - they might have some data for you.
After some thought, I decided I didn't want to find out. I don't want to discourage myself or give myself false hope about getting in. I'm going to stay realistic and let everything run it's course.
Buena suerte to all!
Hi there, I am in (very excited!) but still deciding. What exactly is tomorrow's deadline for? I indicated yes, even though undecided, and am surprised I didn't have to put down a deposit. Any info on this? (I have had mail delivery issues so perhaps I missed a letter or form?) Thanks for any guidance!
I'm applying to UCSF in the 2013 cycle. Did anyone who got in get B's in their pre-reqs? I have nearly a 4.0 from a top school but my grandmother died the week of my A&P finals and I wasn't able to pull through and make an A. Concerned about this and I'd appreciate any thoughts.
Also, congrats to those who've been accepted, and best of luck in pursuing your dream of nursing to those who weren't lucky this time 'round.

Hello Hopefullll!
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!
I was hoping to private message you, but I'm not quite cool enough yet. :-)
When I applied to UCSF for their 2011 cohort, I was terrified that they would take one look at my transcript and throw my application in the trash. I didn't exceed in college because my life at home was tough. I had a 3.0 overall GPA and about a 3.0 overall on my pre-reqs. I think what's most important is that you express your passion for the field (in your essay) and your interest in the school. Obtain letters of recommendation that echo your passion and excellence. Additionally, if you are concerned about your A&P grade, call up the nursing school at UCSF and let them know! If they understand that you exceed academically under normal circumstances, they might be empathetic. However, you won't know until you communicate your concern with the school.
From someone with my background, I managed to get invited to an interview and get waitlisted at UCSF.
You won't know if they will let you in until you try. Don't let this grade, or any other grade, number, statistic, thing you have read that is terrifying, etc., be an obstacle for you!
Best of luck and don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have!

I was recently accepted for the upcoming 2011 MEPN class. I had a similar concern because my grades are generally excellent, but I made a B in Statistics, one of only 3 prereqs that UCSF has (while most other schools have many other prereqs). As miss_mimi noted, the application is a very holistic process and they don't zoom in too much on any one aspect. Just be as strong as you can be in all areas, make sure your essay and recommendations are great, and good luck!

KateinBOS - how did you find out that the #2 spot for adult specialty has not gotten in for the past two years? Any idea on the specs for the FNP waitlist?
