2011 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

Hi,

Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?

I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.

But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?

did anyone who was waitlisted hear back?

Not me Tho...but I've already accepted Yale's offer of admission so I can't say I'm too upset ;)

My face has been plastered to this thread for updates! Oh, the suspense!

I also have not heard anything. I am still hoping for that phone call! It's still very early in the decision process for many schools, especially if they start in September. I still have four schools to hear from, but my fingers are crossed for UCSF!

I haven't heard anything yet, and it's a little tortuous. Does anybody know what the deadline is for those accepted into the program to confirm? I'd chill out a little bit if I knew they didn't have to commit until april 1st, or whatever.

The deadline for admitted students to confirm acceptance was March 9. Though I have heard of waitlisted students joining the incoming MEPN class as late as early June. I guess maybe that is because occasionally students who are admitted and accept end up not being able to go after all? Not sure.

Thank you to mis_mimi and mrmarksf for your reassuring remarks! And happy springtime, everyone :)

Just a quick update: after a month, I followed-up with the Office of Nursing Student Affairs at UCSF and there has been no movement on the FNP list...at least on my end. Any other updates? When do people expect to hear from other programs (Yale, Columbia, etc)?

I am a 2012 MEPN applicant and would like to know whether the APN, FNP, and GNP specialties are the most competitive. Do you know whether UCSF discloses how many slots are open for each specialty?

Thanks!

The UCSF website says that FNP and midwifery programs are most competitive. They do say how many slots are in each during the info session. I think the FNP has the most ~12-16 slots.

Hi all,

I am a long time allnurses.com stalker, and I finally decided to come out of the shadows and join in :yeah: I applied to MEPN for 2011 for midwifery and was waitlisted. So far, no movement on the waitlist. I´m dying to know, is there anyone out there that was accepted but will not be attending but hasn´t notified UCSF yet? Or any other waitlisters that are going elsewhere but havn´t removed themselves from the waitlist yet? Since classes start in just a little over a month I´ve pretty much accepted that I am going to be reapplying this year, but how nice would it be to get a late surprise!

Hi everyone... congrats to everyone who got in for the 2011 class. I can't believe it is almost time to apply again. I'll probably get in, in say, 2020, but it's all good :) I'm actually moving forward with homebirth midwifery and might even be fully licensed by the time I get into UCSF. Hehe. Getting ready to start refining my goals again and sharing the journey with other applicants, hoping to meet some of you this time!

Echos of congratulations to those who got in!

I'm a first-time 2012 applicant for the CNM/WHNP track. Was wondering how common (or uncommon) it is for them to accept first-time applicants... were any of you first-timers? Or do most people have to apply more than once to be accepted?
