I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory
Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).
Thanks!
Hello inhabitants of the thread! I deeply thank those of you who pushed the way to finding out from Admin were we stand. I am very grateful. This has been my third round of applying, and until word came yesterday via the email, the best I could muster was to lurk the thread and observe this round, while, yes, enmeshed in mega anxiety.
When the email arrived yesterday, I think I experienced an emotion I know no name for. I am glad my dog was the only witness!!
My note directly to those who are reading and did not get in: I know how very, very crushing this is. Keep pressing onward, keep as much at peace as you can. I can say the application cycle at least starts up again soon, that helped me feel connected to my goals. What to do in the meantime to strengthen an application: my take from my reapplications is finding and working with nurses in clinic as close to the specialty and community you are committed to serving, to absorb nursing, seeking out nurse leaders, and seeing who you will become. I wish you so very well.
Wow, I was feeling really depressed reading everyone's posts and knowing that I just checked my email and did not receive an email from UCSF. THEN, I checked my JUNK MAIL folder and there it is! Congrats everyone!!! I don't know whether or not I want to go to Penn or UCSF to stay close to home but accumulate more debt...
To those that haven't heard- check you spam folders!!!
i think you can bank on their "full intention" as real :-)
that note was purely to let us know so we can make our decisions, but it is my guess that they need the right paperwork (and time) to push all the decisions through the powers-that-be to make it "official." i do think they fully realize the stress they put on people and they were trying their best to remedy it... but it also sounds like they were at the mercy of normal academic bureaucracy. i called to clarify myself and encourage you to do the same if you have questions. the guy i spoke with could not have been nicer.
on a random note, the email was definitely suppose to be funny and tongue-in-cheek. i thought it was a bit badass personally and was glad that i am going to a school with a sense of humor.
I agree- I thought the email was hilarious. I sent it to my friends. The MASH music reference was my personal fave.
UCSF could have waited until the week before classes start and sent me the news and I still would have turned my world upside down to accept the invitation. My heart has always been set on this program! Can't wait to meet you all and BECOME A NURSE!!
sfcentric- you said it all perfectly! I too sent it to some friends, one of whom commented, "he sounds insane... you should fit right in"...hmmmmm. Anyway, I'm feeling so grateful to be a part of this program, and I can't wait to meet everyone! This next year will be rough, but I'm glad to know I'll get to go through it with so many amazing people! Congrats again everyone, and see you soon(ish)!!
Hi, there! Long time lurker, but I just wanted to let those know, who are still in doubt, that I called the school today. I had a job offer that I needed to turn down and I was waiting for that "official" word. But they said that things are getting really tied up, and that they couldn't give me an estimate of when they will get those notifications out. That said, he said I should just go ahead and plan as if I got it, and that there is "no reason" to believe it wouldn't happen. Sounds simple enough, but I know that I was still unsure of what to do. :) Hope it helps. :)
I think it is very safe to assume you got in. Can you imagine if they told someone over the phone and in an "unofficial" email that they got in and then reversed it?? I think they would get sued! Don't worry you're in. I can't believe I'm gonna have to quit my job soon! Is this really happening??
