UCSD New Grad Residency August 2023

Published

Hello everyone! Just thought I would start this thread for those applying to UCSD's new grad residency program starting this August! I know the job listing should be posted within the next week or so (:

Applied to specialty and general and both say "referred to hiring department"... good luck to everyone!!

Congrats to everyone who has been referred. Do we know about a timeline we can expect interviews and offers based on previous cohorts? Is it pretty close to the start date in August? Or can be any time? Thank you

Does anyone have any idea when they start sending out interview requests? Also does everyone who meets the requirements for the application just get their status changed to "referred to hiring" or is it just certain people that are getting it? It seems like a lot of people are having the status change?

I'm not sure about the interviews but as far as the status changes they definitely do an initial review. My last choice was hemonc and so I admittedly didn't put as much into the application or like my answers. I'm very interested in either specialty or general and with those I got referred. However, for hemonc my status became "others more competitive.” Obviously can't be 100% sure what is going on behind the scenes but I hope you all are getting some good news!

Hi Mel! I have no idea, but it seems like a lot of people of getting their status changed. I only applied for specialty, and mine shows referred as of yesterday. This is the first time I apply to UCSD, so I don't have much insight. I'm guessing that does not guarantee an interview. Let's hope for the best. Best of luck !

Just by looking through the March 2023 cohort, it seems like they were receiving prescreening about 2 months after the application closing deadline date and then some were receiving their interviews about a week after that. It seems it depends on the unit that we have applied for when we get prescreened and an interview. It seems like it is just a waiting game right now...

Hi friends! I attended that webinar they had and according to them, interviews are held April 24th - May 5th! So I imagine we should be hearing back soon. I could have misheard though! Hope this helps!

Did anyone save that powerpoint that was posted after the webinar? I think the interview dates was posted on there now that I am thinking about it. I could be wrong though. Can't find it on the website

I have the PowerPoint and these are the dates on it! Does anyone know the format of interviews? Like is it virtual or in person?

I think they said if you're local you can go in person, out of state they can make accommodations for virtual through zoom.

got a screening phone call from one of the units in the oncology listing. I was asked a few questions. I was told they were calling all candidates referred to that  unit, and that I should hear back at the end of the week if moving forward to the live interview.

things are moving! best of luck everyone.
