UCSD New Grad Program - August 2013 Postings

Published

Hey everyone! Has anyone applied for the recent postings for New Grad positions at UCSD? I haven't seen much conversation on here about new grad positions so I thought I'd start this one. I applied for Hem/Onc, IMU, and PCU. I'll post on here if I hear anything! Best of luck to those that applied.

I see. Oh I was just asking just to ask. Hehe. :) That's good. Continue to stay positive as we wait. Good luck with everything! :)

I also applied to UCSD Perinatal, PCU, and IMU. My status has not changed yet. Does not that mean I did get through, or there is still a chance???? UCSD is my dream hospital, I would love to work there!

I applied to the PCU & hem/onc. No status changes either.

What does your status say?

What does your status say?

For hem/onc it still says "referred to hiring department". All of the others say "application received".

What about you?

Mine both say "referred to hiring department." But one has been like that for awhiiile and I know that's not a good sign...

Erin44RN did you do an externship at UCSD? I am just wondering cause my status has not changed. I wanted to see if they consider the ones that has never done anything there, like me. I even tried to volunteer, but they did not accept me. I don't get accept to volunteer imagine work. This is tough!! Good luck to you!

I have not done an externship at UCSD. I actually went to school up in Irvine, but I'm from SD and hope to be able to find work down here. I talked to a UCSD nurse recruiter a couple of months ago and she told me they put A LOT of emphasis on what kind of unit you had your preceptorship/externship on. So if they're hiring in the NICU, and you did your preceptorship in the NICU, you'll more likely than not be pushed through to the actual hiring managers and then it's up to them if you get called for an interview. Kind of like a screening process... at least this is what I understood from our conversation. I hope that helps!

Oh I see. I did my preceptorship at PCU in scripps. Hopefully that helps. Thanks!

I think the ones that precept and apply within the facility have both a disadvantage and advantage. It's the networking with the managers, preceptors and surrounding nurses with their feedback that they provide . They see and hear the good and bad, so don't rule anything out. On my unit we have a few hired on as new grads from good experiences, but there are also students who are denied consideration due to weaknesses. Several, if not most of those hired in the past few years on, are not sd natives including myself. This is just my unit specifically. Also, if you're applying into an ICU level of care and precepted in let's say medsurg, it will be difficult to be considered unless you wow someone. Seen that too.

It is just hard to try to make my résumé stand out. How will they know my strength and weakness without interviewing me. That makes me think that they call out those that got referred to the job by nurses that work there.

I totally feel the same way.
