UCLA Summer 2019 New Grad Residency

Published

Hi everyone,

Just starting a thread for all of us who've applied for UCLA's summer residency program.

What units did you apply to? Internal? External? Good luck everyone! ?

For those of you who have had second interviews, what is it like? What should I expect? Thanks

Just got a call for PICU!

Congrats!!!

That's so exciting! I didn't expect them to start giving out offers so soon!(:

Did you do a reference check email before they offered you the job?

Just offered a position at RR in perinatal! Never received the reference check but maybe that’s because I included 4 letters of recommendation in my portfolio.

Anyone from RR OR get contacted again?

Anyone hear back from SM ICU?

@sweets77 I interviewed with perinatal and had 2 people interview me the first time and 3 different people interview me the second time. The first one I felt was more casual, getting to know me, why I chose nursing and perinatal. The second one seemed a little more intense. They discussed my grades on my transcripts and asked questions like tell me a time you failed, what that felt like, how you overcame it. I honestly thought it didn't go that well since it seemed so much more intense. I was just as equally shocked as I was excited when they offered me the position. Just prepare some good relevant stories because they will want a specific example for every question they asked. And they prefer nursing clinical stories, not "I failed when I got a bad test grade". Definitely practice your response for why you chose nursing and why you're interested in their unit. I was asked that for both interviews. Good luck!

@juleslb Congrats! I'm curious if you are the person I met when I was waiting for my second interview. Was your second interview at 1230 on Wednesday the 29th?

I actually did my second interview over zoom because I had to go back to San Francisco!

@juleslb Oh gotcha, must have been someone else then. Well I'm looking forward to meeting you and everyone else. Do you know where you're going to move to? Westwood is super expensive! Idk where I should look to live!

@stressednewgrad3000 Looking forward to meeting you as well! I'm from Long Beach so I'm planning on living at home for a couple months and then hopefully Westwood or Brentwood. I love the area it's expensive but it seems like most parts of la are
