UCLA NP program Fall 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hey all, Starting this thread to find out if anyone else has applied to ucla's np program starting this fall 2013. I applied for Acute care np. Would love to find out who has what information. Best of luck

I haven't received anything either. I emailed to follow up and we should all be getting an email soon regarding the Physical assessment class. I live in Torrance and I don't really plan of moving closer. I am hoping we can find carpool buddies because it would make it -much- easier to get through that traffic.

Hi Rhythsetradio! Got the email today! And looks like we'll both be trekking up the 405!

Do you guys know if we have to sign up for the class officially on UCLA summer registration or will they enroll us automatically once they chose the lab sections?

I think they are arranging it for us. I went through Ursa and I couldn't find anything.

Congratulations to all of those who were accepted. I am interested in applying this year, but I am worried that I do not have enough bedside experience. For those who were accepted, can you please share what kind of work experience you have and how many years you've worked? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you and Good Luck!

Hi RNBSN7777! I have about 6 years of experience as an RN, all of them in critical care. If I remember correctly, they admit a lot of students from the 5+ range, and the percentage gets smaller with less years of experience, although it is not impossible even if someone only has 0-1 year of experience. If you are able to attend one of the information sessions, I found that they shared a lot of helpful information to help you build a stronger application. Good Luck! ;)

Did anyone from waitlist got in? My friend is on the list but thinking of just forgetting about it. No rejection letter yet, status says no decision made. How long do they do this waitlist waiting?

Work experience, well, I have a year and a half at a community hospital and another year and a half at a teaching hospital. So total of 3 years. Definitely go to the information session because you will be able to ask the professors and admission questions as well as find out about the application process. I did this and found that it had helped me a great deal in preparing my submission to the school. The one thing I took aware from the session is they stress your statement of purpose as being the strongest part of your file. I'm not sure how much experience you have but, I think it is always worth trying because you will not know otherwise.

I never heard anything about the waitlist but I'm sure if you contact admissions, they could give you some insight. I believe, the MECN students are still being accepted off of the waitlist.

Don't let the amount of experience deter you from applying if this is truly what you want to do. I will only have a little over two years of acute care experience at a teaching hospital at the time of starting the program. I second the importance of the statement of purpose. If experience is what you are lacking, let them know what you have done in the short time that you've been a nurse. And let your passion and enthusiasm shine through in your statement. And definitely attend an info session to learn more as everyone has already mentioned.

For those admitted and taking Advanced Research this summer, did you guys already sign up for the class and, if so, how do you go about doing it?

Hi murse89! I just logged in through URSA. You'll find the links there for class registration and then you pay there too using bruinbill.

Is the advanced research class the one we can take if you want in the second half of summer quarter but if you don't take it, it'll be in fall quarter?

Thanks for the encouragement! You all are amazing.

Does anyone have any tips on what should be included in the personal statement (i.e. community service, work experience, research)?
