UCLA New Grad Winter 2015

U.S.A. California

Does anyone have an idea when the applications go up for the Winter 2015 cohort for UCLA RN new grad residency? Also, what is the minimum GPA required to apply? I have heard different things; some such as GPA at UCLA matters to an extent and others say that you need an extremely high GPA. My GPA is not low by any means, but it is average. Thanks!

hi all, i'll be entering a nursing program this summer/fall, and i will apply for residency at UCLA in about a year and wanted to get a headstart. what can i do during nursing school to let me stand out? i'm currently interested in ICU, transplant, OR. Which specialties are more/less "competitive".

i heard that there's a personality test which determines whether you get an interview or not, what are the "correct" and "wrong" answers?

has anyone heard about the ortho unit ? i want to know already if i still have chance or just move one - the wait is just too long.

yeah i agree its been a super long wait. i don't know if they're working today because its a holiday, but they did say they are calling people this week and next week.

You are right they are not working today. The wait is killing me! I have another offer and I don't know how long I can hold them off.

Hey lagirl_1989! I applied twice to this residency. One time without a set NCLEX date/license and the second time with my license. I applied the first time while I was in school and nothing was really different about my application other than the fact that I had completed RN school and my NCLEX. I think having a set NCLEX date or license makes you more competitive than students who are applying who don't.

I don't know if the personality test that's part of the application is a huge factor that determines whether you get to interview or not. Like I mentioned, I applied twice--one time during the winter and the next during the fall. I don't feel like/think my answers were that different the second time around. I think what really helped was having my degree and license.

lagirl_1989 i have different opinion from hellcat i don't think having ur license matters. i know many of my friends who applied last summer - they had not yet graduate or even had date set for the nclex got hired.its more are u a good fit for the unit and how strong ir ur interview and if u don't pass ur nclex ucla is actually nice enough - depending on the unit to give a couple weeks to retake and have ur license. for the personality test - its based it ur personality score matches the unit personality they want. so its not pass or fail its more if the units u applied if u match the personality they want. you should be more worry about ur resume and cover letter - i have spoken with recruiter before she is very picky in what she wants in resume.

Hi needlicense! I was just looking through this and saw you were offered the position on the GONDA unit! I got an offer there as well! I believe we are the only two that they hired there :)

there's a fb group also for this cohort that was barely made today which you all may find helpful - UCLA NEW GRAD RN WINTER 2015

RE: shiiivers

my case is different. i was actually hired last June 2014 but i didn't pass the nclex twice by the time the cohort started last september but they were extremely incredibly nice to change my cohort date even after i said I didn't pass. I finally passed my NCLEX when I took it on my third try, and I got my license this month. So I called them and ------------- from HR told me I will be hearing from them soon - it'll be a phone call saying I got the job offer and will then be followed by an email with a link to confirm that I will take the position - exactly how I did it last June 2014. so its okay don't freak out! a lot of people who are getting the job for sure still haven't heard back! (such as my case since HR called me saying I still have the job). Keep the faith everyone!!! Don't lose hope

thanks for the update! congrats on passing your NCLEX!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I had an interview for med/surg and I did the references, but I haven't heard from them yet. I still need to pass the nclex, my test date in february 12th and I am extremely nervous. I failed the nclex once and I am super scare to fail again. I truly don't feel prepare to take the nclex again, but I thought I needed the license before the start of the program. Do you think I can start the program with my interim permit?

My permit is valid until abril 4th.

Hi Fcat! I'm not sure, but call HR and ask because I know the start date is April 6th for some units.

Have you taken any NCLEX review courses?
