Hey RNvic... I was offered a position I PiCU too... I'd be willing to exchange email addresses if you are interested :)Hi jcp24 I was offered a position in the PICU as well! I guess I don't have the ability to private message people on here but maybe we can exchange emails, I'd love to get to know some of my future PICU buddies :)
I want to apply to this residency program, but am clueless where to start and hope someone can help me out with some questions :)
I saw on some previous post that UCLA wants the LOR to be uploaded - when you asked for LOR did you asked for it to be emailed to you? or how did you guys asked for the LOR.. in sealed envelope? sorry for this dumb question.. but I've never asked for LOR before.
and I tried to look for the requirement for the residency on the website, but couldn't find any.. could anyone post it? such as GPA requirement? etc.
for those that are hired, first of all - congratulation!! do you have any tips/advice regarding writing the cover letter, resume experience.. etc. what do you think made you stood out from the crowd?
thank you for helping in advance!!
Which unit are u interested in? I had my LOR uploaded with PDF so I could do them immediately we then got sent an email and had to put 5 references down, who they then contacted and had to fill out a very detailed questionare about us...my GPA was average but my extracurricular preceptorship, CNA experience and leadership involvement I think stood out....good luck!
@pedwannabenurse thank you for replying! which unit did you get in? :) i'm interested in either medsurg/tele, ped, or nicu. so for the lor, i should maybe ask for generic letter? i wasn't sure if it's rude to ask for lor if they know i will be reading them, because i heard they usually give it to you in a sealed enveloper.. did you tell your professor that you'll need to upload them and asked them to email you in the pdf form? sorry for asking so many question..
and thank you for sharing your experiences!! i've worked in dr's office, but not hospital/cna experience other than clinical rotation. do you think volunteering experience in the hospital would help?
I got a job in Peds my instructors all handed me LOR printed out not in a sealed envelope I would tell them what u are having to do with them :)...even Dr office employment I think it is great! I would recommend a very solid cover letter as well explaining ur passion and why u want the specific floor..I also had PALS and ACLS and did not have a senior preceptor in peds so was honored to be given the opportunity

I think part of it is the gpa, then my internship and externship experiences, having acls certification, and of course, performance during the interview.
