Has anyone who interviewed for L&D heard anything in regards to final decisions? If I remember correctly, they should be getting back to us this week.

Thats what they told us during orientation.

You need to call HR. The HR will not call you to set up your physical and fingerprints .

Congrats to everyone who was accepted in the new grad program! I am planning to apply for the summer program and I would like to know if anyone could tell me how the application and interview process was. Also, were there any expectations from you? And would I have a shot if my gpa is below 3.5? Any information will help. Thanks!

Hard question to answer because each manager is so different as to what they're looking for. General rule is to be yourself and have lots of confidence. Personality is key because they want to know if you could fit in. I dont think GPA is important but its a small contributing factor. I have a 3.3 gpa and I was the only one that got hired onto the unit. When I asked my CNS/UD about why they hired me and they told me that my personality outshined many of the other applicants. Their reason is that they can teach you the knowledge but they cant teach you personality. They can spot a fake person a mile away so just be yourself. Wishing you the best!

You need to call HR. The HR will not call you to set up your physical and fingerprints .

Thanks. I ended up scheduling them myself as well.

@nursenursingnursed In terms of the application, have at least 2 letters of rec and about 4 reference emails because they'll have to take a survey about you. There's also this really long survey you have to take as well. The interview processes varies for certain units, but the initial interview usually takes place at HR with the manager of the unit and is usually about 15-20 minutes or so with generic questions.

Hey buckeye!!! Yes Definitely let's exchange info!!! This month has been one crazy month for me, I just graduated, and took my NCLEX today (*fingers crossed*) I haven't found a place yet! Hope to find a few places tommorow though when I drive up! I really wish I had time to find a roommate though! Rent is expensive!!! whew! I am uber excited to meet you guys! I'm originally from the Bay area too!!! =)

Ucla has 2 New grad programs. The next I believe will be starting in March. Keep an eye out on ucla's event page or the career page.Good luck
Hello SeptemberRN! I just learned on Wednesday afternoon that I was offered a position in the 4 East Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital! In terms of being called for an interview, something that truly helped me was that I joined the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).

As a member of APNA, I attended APNA's Annual Conference, which is the largest meeting of psychiatric nurses in the country! At the conference, they had an exhibition hall where UCLA Nurse Recruiters had their own booth. I had the opportunity to meet the recruiters there.

It is important to meet the recruiters, make a good impression (as if you are being interviewed), and ask about any questions you have for UCLA. You may also meet recruiters in job fairs, career fairs at school, or nursing student conferences. I was an active member of the National Student Nurses' Association, which is where I had the opportunity to attend nursing conferences and network.

If you have not done so already, take time to join professional nursing organizations and professional student nursing organizations and network. I cannot tell you how much I gained from joining these organizations. Not only do you meet people with similar career interests, but you learn about scholarship opportunities, educational opportunities, and job opportunities.

I hope this helps :). Good luck to you!

Hi Abstractisheroic,

I was wondring if you could clarify.....Does the position you were hired for participate in a new grad program? I know you applied through the program, but do you actually attend classes like the other new grads in the more "medical units"?

I appreciate any input!

THANK YOU this is greatly appreciated

Thank you for the responses MrNurse2011 and DH310! I'll definitely keep your tips in mind!
