Hi Everyone!
UCLA's application for their new grad residency program opened today so I thought I'd make a forum where we could all chat & support each other through the stressful process. Good luck to everyone who applies!
STAFF UPDATE
Tell us about UCLA by visiting University of California (UCLA) School of Nursing | Peer Reviews.
Hello! I just got interviewed for PICU RRUCLA yesterday, Nov. 30, 2016.
I observed that they are really keen about PICU experience/hrs, i.e. preceptorship.
Unfortunately, the school I went for my BSN did not provide preceptorships, aside from the regualar clinical rortation hours for ea. class.
Has anybody heard about second interviews for PICU? Im also curious, how many new grads are they willing to hire particularly for this unit?
Good luck everyone!
Hi Unbreakable. I was there as well for the PICU interview last Friday. I don't believe they conducted second interviews that day, so I wouldn't worry. Their list was in front of them, and they said they had a whole day of interviewing. How was your experience?
Hello Raqlove and Unbreakable!
I interviewed in PICU as well, just yesterday!
I did not have any tours nor 2nd interview yesterday also.
Did any of you heard about any follow-up emails yet?
@jfgs_ I contacted the managers and I believe they will be sticking to the timeline that was given in the informational packet. As of now, they are still interviewing and will not be reviewing any of the candidates until the next following weeks. She told me that HR will be in contact with us either way, but did not specify a date. (According to the packet, I believe that will be anywhere from December 5-16)
Hey "NurseMJ80." Yes the interview was quick and no they did not ask those questions. And I submitted my references last week however have yet to hear from them. I doubt they have really gotten a chance to look at my application yet though due to the holiday.
Thanks for the update LE93! I will let you know if I hear anything on my end.
I was contacted for a second interview for PICU on Nov 21. I will be interviewing again tomorrow. Email says it is a peer/staff interview to get a chance to interact with them and I will also be given a tour of the unit.
I'm not too sure but I heard there will be 10 new grads hired, according to a classmate who also interviewed for PICU.
Good luck to you as well!
Hello all!! Just wanted to chime in here. I haven't read the whole thread so I do not know if anyone else interviewed for Neuro-Trauma ICU, but I had my first interview today. It went really well. I do have experience in acute care and with various drips and procedures that they really liked.
Luckily for me, my preceptorship was done in a Level 1 trauma/neuro/burn center and I have been employed as an ER nurse for 2 months--I think that helped a lot. The interview lasted about 20 minutes with the director and 2 other RNs. They all took notes, went over my rec letters/resume/cover letter and transcripts. They asked a lot of questions, and I asked quite a few as well.
I was immediately told to go take a tour of the ICU, which was AMAZING !!! robot doctors running around and all....lol
So apparently, in Neuro-trauma they are "interviewing 35 and accepting 10 new grads"--from the directors lips to this forum...verbatim.
But every unit is different. The RN that showed me around the ICU said it was a good sign that I had been offered the tour, but she didn't know that it was a sure thing.. I concurred.
I am now hoping to hear back for the second interview, but the director left the timeline open-ended.. saying that I will not here back from them directly, but I will be contacted after a week...or 5....lol
They also said the program should start in March, but may be pushed to April.
Anyhoo.... good luck everyone... just getting the interview was monumental and shows that you have something they like....
