Hi everyone! Please share your experience, tips, updates, etc concerning UCLA's New Grad Residency beginning in March 2023.

Hi, just stalking this page for a friend. But current 6ICU new grad. The union signed a new contract effective in Jan for a 5% wage increase so the offer letter pay may change when you actually start.
6icu requires new grads to be rotating shifts (switching between day and night shift every month or so) until about 1-2 years working on the unit before you can decide which shift to stay on. We are all hired as “break relief” plus 2 shifts, in the case that they need people to work break reliefs. Hope that helps and congrats!

Thank you for the information.
I was wondering does that mean that we have to come in 4 times per week since it is (2) 12hrs shift and (2) 6hrs break relief?

Technically yes, but they won’t have you on break relief shifts when you first start off and during precepted shifts. And depending on staffing needs, you may never even do break relief shifts, so no need to worry yet!

Ahh I see. Thank you so much for answering my question!

Hey ! I will be on the SM perinatal unit, and my offer letter states I will be 12 hour shifts, and part time. I thought when you work 12s you generally work three 12s, or 36 hours per week which is full time. Does this mean I will only be working 24 hours per week or two 12 hour shifts a week ?
does anyone else’s offer letter say they are part time ?
also, how is it doing the rotating nights/days ? Im a little bit worried about it !

Thank you for sharing that information and the clarification on the shifts~
I was wondering since you're currently there, have you enjoyed the unit and the training program so far? Do you feel supported by management and like the nurses on the floor are supportive of the new grads? Just hoping to get some more insight~ thank you in advance!
