UCLA New Grad Program Winter 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

The application for the new grad program at UCLA for the Winter 2016 cohort opens today. Finally! It feels like I've been waiting in anticipation for so long. Any other hopefuls applying for this cohort? I figured I'd start a thread so we could update each other on the status of our applications and such... I know I've poured over many threads from the past cohorts to try to get more info!

Good luck everyone who is applying!

Hello, everyone! I'm applying to this program as well. Good luck to everyone :)

I was wondering the same thing, however, it looks like they will now be accepting applications until October 20th.

Good luck to all!

Hi, everyone! I'm so excited about the opportunity and thankful this thread was started! Here's a question for you all- was your top pick in the same specialty area as your senior preceptorship? Mine wasn't, and I'm wondering if I can still change my top picks or if this will hurt my chances. Thanks!

Hi everyone, Do you know if I can submit the application and then upload the letters of rec like tomorrow. I have everything, but still waiting on one letter of rec and was wondering if I could at least submit the application, thank you!

I submitted the application and was able to upload the additional documents at a later time.

My preceptorship is in the NICU, which I was planning on putting as my top choice. However, NICU is not listed for this cohort... :( I applied to perinatal for my top choice since I actually would prefer to do L&D, but we couldn't do our preceptorship in L&D specifically at my school (only postpartum with a potential to possibly be planted in L&D). I hope it doesn't hurt my chances of getting hired in perinatal. I also chose the ED since I think it would be interesting for me and I've worked as a medical scribe in the ED. Additionally, I chose psych because I have a previous degree in psychology and 3 years of full-time work experience working with mental health before returning to nursing school.

I hope that the variety in my choices doesn't look bad... :(

Also, I wonder why they are extending the application period? Does anybody know if they have done this in previous years?

Woah I just noticed. That's a long application window! Hahaha I would why they did that

Now that the deadline is extended to October 20, sure!

Kayla0515, I was wondering the same thing...

None of my top picks were in the same specialty as my preceptor. We didn't get to pick our preceptors at my school, so assuming that somewhere we were placed for a class was an advantage doesn't really make sense. I decided to let them know the areas I truly want to pursue, and if I am not a good fit, then I should be looking elsewhere. Also, since this is a new grad position, they aren't particularly looking for "experience" as a qualification.

I did mine in the NICU as well! Although I did have a great experience, I did not choose perinatal for the application because I realized that NICU/L&D are not for me.

Also, I don't think the variety in your picks looks bad, given that you have some experience in all three! :)

Specializes in Pediatric/Adult Oncology.

Hello all! I also applied to this residency. I applied to oncology, pediatrics, and medsurg. So excited for all of us!

Hello everyone,

I also applied to the new grad program for 2016. Anyone know how many people apply during the application process?
