I had my interview last nov but unfortunately I wasnt hired because im not qualified to the area that I chose. My 1st choice was med-surg but there was no available position so I chose ccu and cardiology step down. They told me that they're not gonna train new grad who has no or totally zero experience in critical areas so they told me that I should be starting in med-surg.
It depends entirely on the unit director (=nurse manager) with whom you are interviewing. I had two interviews when I went in, one for the NICU and one for high-risk L&D. The manager of the NICU approached it more as an opportunity to have a conversation about me and what I would bring to the unit; the L&D manager threw me a lot of clinical and/or critical thinking questions, and was a lot more stressful in general. I did get an offer from the NICU, which is where I've just started working.

e411joseph- How did you get in to med surg? When I called UCLA to make my interview appointment they told me they didn't have any openings left in med surg. Frustrating! The first time I called to make an appointment to interview they told me they would call me back a week later because they were not scheduling interviews yet (even though I called when they told me to call!!). When I didn't recieve a call back from them by Wed the next week I called and the woman I talked to told me they had very few spots left and I should have called sooner. What the heck? Did anyone else have an experience like this?

I have an interview with UCLA for the new grad program. Can anyone who has been through UCLA's interview process give me some pointers. What questions are asked and what kind of answer did you give. Did it work for you..did you get a job offer?
