UCLA MECN 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey, I am currently getting ready to apply to the UCLA MECN program. I went to UCLA yesterday to meet with the nursing advisor and since I have 2 C's, one in psych and one in Stats, she advised me to repeat one of them because I can't have more than one C on my transcripts. I plan on taking Micro this fall. In terms of work experience, I work with an agency facilitating care for end of life patients. I really want to get into the UCLA program but I will also be applying to CSULA, CSUN, CSUCI, CSUSM and USF, Western and

Anyway, I just wanted to create a thread for those applying same time as I so we can discuss. Fyi I will be attending the info session on July 26!

I really want to specialize though so I'm kind of bummed that the MECN doesn't offer a specialty, I would have to do a post-masters program.

How many classes can you have in progress when applying?

If a class is repeated, do they average the two or disregard the lower grade totally?

How much is the program in total?

Do MECN graduates make more in terms of salary than BSNs?

He guys, I was accepted for the 2016 cohort. Here is my advice:

1) Write a very GOOD statement letter (have it revised), 2) have letter of recommendation from the chair of your department, one from a professor you have good student to teacher relationship with, and one from a medical professional you have either worked with or done researched with. 3) Make sure that before you have them do you letter that you have written your statement letter, so that when they go to write you your letter of recommendation, they can use that as a guide to explain why you would make an excellent nurse. 4) Have work-related experience! (Many of the students that got accepted had either exceptional GPA with minimal experience or an acceptable GPA with a lot of work-related experience under their belt).

Thank you so much for your advice! How's the program so far?

Thanks so much for your comment and advice! I think it's a great idea to have our recommenders use our personal statements for reference. Do you mind sharing what your applicant profile looked like? (GPA, work experience, etc) What has the program been like for you the like year?

Does anyone know when the application comes out? :)

Does anyone know when the application comes out? :)

At the info session they said check after Labor Day, which was a week ago

The page where the app will be posted said " check back in early September" for months.... It recently switched to mid-September.

Hey everyone! :)

Does anyone know when is the deadline for the letters of recommendation?! Is it also due Nov. 1st as well??

They said that is due around January alongside any other pending transcripts. Don't remember the exact date but it was January. I personally want to have mine by Jan 1st to be safe!

From my info session notes: recommenders have until January 15th to submit letters of rec.

Hello all,

I thought I'd leave my stats here to share with everyone:

Undergrad GPA (last 60/90): 3.4 (BS in Public Health - Graduating Dec 2016) *Hoping it will be higher after this semester!*

Pre Req GPA: 3.4

Experience: ~ 1,500 hours of EMT experience + 300 hours of Volunteer experience from CCE program

Good luck to everyone!

* If anyone notices the application being posted, can you let us know? Thanks! Is anyone also applying to other schools?

Yes. I'm waiting for the application to post. Thought it would be up by now. :/ Anyways yes I am actually applying to western, apu, csula and csulb.

Hey guys, who knows what is delaying the application. I applied last year and was rejected. Maybe because of my 3 pending prerequisites(excluding epidemiology). This time, I am done with the 3 and reapplying.

does anyone know if having been rejected kinda gives one an edge or something:) I wish..lol

Hello guys/applicants

while you guys are waiting for the app to open, pls don't forget to edit your essay. Let some people read it, your boss/professors or even your classmates. Remember theres no interview, so....that statement/essay is your ticket to UCLA. Make sure its remarkable and outstanding essay. So good luck and have fun.

BTW.. if you have any questions feel free to holler.. I just started my cohort.
