Is anyone applying to the Fall 2012 program ? I have a few questions and I think it would be good to share our concerns regarding the application process here.

I am a preschool teacher and I am applying for 2012. Have very little healthcare volunteer experience and wondering if that really maters. I have some experience looking after a family member who had a stomach surgery and chemo.

kgroundw, I too decided to take the BYU and I would love to join a study group. It will be great to have the support.... I will try to send you a private message.

Hey Kassach and Chappie1920, friend me on Facebook - name is Kate Groundwater. And I don't want to start the classwork until April either, so we're on the same page there.

stacyk-

i assume you were responding to me? hopefully? :) i'd love to chat with you about the program and hear what swayed your decision! i have never sent a private message on here before but i will attempt to do that and give you my phone number. just let me know whenever you have time in the next few days and maybe we can talk for a short bit. otherwise, you can also message me on facebook. thanks!

Hi everyone!

When is the deadline for the acceptance confirmation?

The 19th is for wait-list and those that were accepted?

Hi everyone!

Thank you all (especiall StacyK, NurseZee and current UCLA students who shared their posts) for helping me out choosing a school. I have decided to come to UCLA and am so excited to start the program and meet all of you!

Has anyone receive another email from Graduate Division regarding offical acceptance letter and registration for Statement of Legal. On the letter, it said I will receive it soon but I have not got it, yet. Which makes me confuse what actions to take now on.

junealex, the deadline is Monday, 3/19. I already emailed today. You should do it asap, too before you forget :p

I was wondering if anyone looking for housing? I am thinking to move in to Graduate Student Apartment or any aprtment near the campus but I am looking for a roommate. I am a 25 years old, Korean femaile student from OC. If you are interested in please let me know! [email protected]. How are you guys preparing for the housing if you are moving? Just wanna get more information on other pathways!

It seems like most of you are taking EPI over the summer! Good luck to you all and Hope you see you guys soon! Ace the class :p

ljy1987: Thank you!

Great! Happy to hear and I look forward to meeting you in Epi!

Is Nursing 50 a 6 week course or a 10 week course? I'm a little confused because the acceptance letter indicates that it is a 10 week session, but on the website it shows that the course is 6 weeks. May someone clarify this?

Hi amfo and others, I apparently cannot respond to messages yet, I guess I need to post some more! But I think their wording was just slightly misleading on the letter. I think when they said "please take Nursing 50 during the 10-week summer session" they were referring to the summer session as a WHOLE, not trying to say that course itself was 10 weeks long. I am almost positive that is is correct online as a 6 week course. I had half a mind to email them to make sure, but I am preeeettty certain it was a wording error and that is in fact 6 weeks long.

Hope this helps!

And we are so happy to hear that ljy1987! Congrats on your decision :)

hi all.

1. i know i'm saying this kind of late, but i think it's better late than never. i saw that when we started receiving admission decisions, some of you were saying that you were "rejected." please try to refrain from using this word. when a school does not offer you admission, it is simply that. for one reason or another, they are "not offering you admission," or "unable to offer you admission at this time," or giving you an "unfavorable decision." some of you may say that they all mean the same, but not in my opinion. rejection seems connected to one's character while not offering admission or even denying admission is tied to data on paper. since universities cannot admit all applicants, they will unavoidably disappoint some people. in no way, they are "rejecting" people. i once worked as an admission officer for a large university out of state. we, the admission officers made conscious effort to not use the word "reject" when discussing unfavorable decisions with students, so i felt the urge to make a statement here. you have not been rejected. ucla simply could not accommodate you. however, as several of you put it: when one door closes, another opens. i believe this.

2. @amfo – i noticed that the class schedule online does indicate six weeks. since this is the university’s official registration portal, i imagine this is accurate.

3. i am registered for the summer epi class on campus. look forward to meeting many of you there!

4. i noticed previous discussions about byu independent study. i’m actually finishing up a nutrition class through byu is. feel free to let me know if you have any questions. if your course requires exams, you will need to find a proctor to receive, administer, and submit the exams for you. you can find a list of approved proctors on byu’s site. i called, if not all, most of them in greater la and some in orange county, and found one that charges the most reasonable price. this particular lady proctor charges $35 an exam, while other places charge $50 to $70 per exam, and in some cases, per hour. i know, it’s ridiculous. check out the website and give jill a call. tutoring club - tutoring that teaches students to succeed at all academic levels. she is very friendly. i had located someone else that charges $30, but i decided to go with her because she sounded more professional and friendly on the phone. being professional and approachable can go a long way. again, i’m happy to answer any questions.

5. this forum has been an incredible grounds for providing support for one another during the tough application process. now that we received our decisions and know who will be attending ucla, what do you all think about meeting up sometime? even before the epi class. whoever can meet up can come out and we’ll all have lunch or dinner. even if it’s only a few of you that are interested, i’d be happy to make an arrangement. maybe we set a time once for the la area and another time in orange county.

6. finally, as many of you, i would love to have my own place. however, as many of you, i am considering a roommate for saving $. does anyone have a dog? or like dogs? or don’t mind dogs? i have a small dog that i am considering bringing into the apartment at the end of the year or beginning of next year. he’s sweet and quite a character. very fun, especially at the dog park. he can be quite therapeutic when he snuggles next to you! i thought that if we both enjoy dogs and we are in the same program, we might be great support for one another. i am looking for a place as close to campus as possible. preferably so close that i can walk to campus and not have to buy a separate campus parking pass. i am thinking about $1000 per person for a two-bedroom rental. i think you have to expect at least about that much for westwood. let me know!
