It's that time of year again! I am planning on applying for the Fall 2019 quarter. The summer 2018 information sessions are now open. Who else is applying ?

Congrats to those who got in! I just received my rejection letter as well! Do you mind sharing who you asked for letter of recommendation and where you volunteer!

LORs: Professor, Work Supervisor, Internship Manager.

Volunteer/Experience: Community health fair for 3 consecutive years, EMT experience and an internship where I worked alongside nurses/ in a hospital for two years.

I think it matters that everything you do serves a purpose and that it aligns with your future nursing career goals.

I just got an acceptance too! 10 AM Pacific Standard Time. Best of luck to everyone!

For your acceptance did it say that the final decision by the UCLA Graduate Division has to be made? In my email it says "It is a pleasure to inform you that the School of Nursing has recommended to the Graduate Division of UCLA that you be admitted to the Master’s Entry Clinical Nursing Program beginning Fall Quarter, 2019. Please be advised that FINAL admission decisions are made by the UCLA Graduate Division. You should receive the OFFICIAL notification from the UCLA Graduate Divisions within 2 – 3 weeks" I just want to be sure that I am understanding it correctly.

Yes! It's so confusing. Then they say congratulations at the end.

Does anyone know a student who participated in the MECN program? I was told by another nurse that we must obtain an 84% or better to pass. I also read in a past forum that people were dropped the first week. Does anyone have insight into the rigor/work load of the program?

Same, I would like to know how the rigor/work program is like for current students. Also, how is the cohort? Do you feel like a part of a family or is it more of a competition?

There was a current MECN student on this forum at one point, mecnucla, who gave some good insights. I haven't seen him/her for a bit so I'm not sure how active s/he is.

Do y'all know an estimate of how many people tend to get off the waitlist?

I got my acceptance letter this morning! It feels so surreal, but I am very happy since UCLA was my first choice :)

Here are my stats:

I had 3.91 pre-req GPA and 3.47 undergrad GPA

Worked as a nurse assistant/phlebotomy tech at a medical clinic for about a year and volunteered at a hospital for about 6-7months when I applied.

I got LORs from two of my science professors and one from my employer.

I spent a lot of time on my SOP and personal history.

Yay congrats ?

We should start a FB group.

Hi all,

I am excited to meet everyone in fall, UCLA was my top choice so I am pretty set on my decision!

My stats:

3.341 under grad gpa, 3.9 pre req gpa

Experience: nursing volunteer program at UCLA hospital, suicide prevention center counselor, internship at a medical center. I have also worked on starting 2 community health campaigns to help the underserved population. Around 900+ hours of community service.

LOR: One from a professor, supervisor, and a surgeon from my internship.

It does seem like USD, Western, UCLA, etc. are very big on community service and demonstration of leadership abilities.

Also, I worked on my POS starting in September and Personal History in October.

I believe that a few years back they did require an 85% or better to pass each course. I think from 2018 on they only require an 80% to pass each course for the nursing program. For the graduate division of UCLA you are required to maintain a 3.0 at minimum.

Hey everyone,

I also just got accepted into the program! That email was confusing though, had to reread it a few times ?. I am still in disbelief! Still waiting on decisions from University of FL, Duke (March) and University of Miami (just applied). I got rejected from NYU and University of South FL. I'm pretty sure I'll end up in this program!

For those of you still waiting on decisions, don't give up! I didn't have a high GPA at all (3.23) but do have a master's degree in psych and a long career in social work. I get the impression the school of nursing is very big on working with the underserved population, which is what I emphasized in my LOR and SOP (started October). In regards to clinical experience, I volunteered 200+ hours at UCLA Hospital.

I also did well in my accelerated science prerequisites, completed within a school year while working full-time. I'm thinking maybe they figured I could handle the work load?

My LOR was written by a professor, employer and a nurse practitioner that I work with at my job sometimes.

I hope everyone gets into the program of their choice! Good luck.
