UCLA MECN Fall 2014?

Published

Hi- Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program for next fall?

You can take Epi through BYU online for about $500. I've taken two other classes through them and they've been pretty self taught, but very straightforward. Plus, it's go at your own pace. BYU is my plan if I'm accepted!

I took epi last summer at UCLA and I highly recommend it even though it's expensive. It was pretty straightforward, easy and only 6 weeks! Plus, it really was nice getting to meet other MECNs before actually beginning the program. I've talked to some people who've taken the BYU epi course and although it's much cheaper, they expressed how inconvenient it was for them to set up and schedule proctored exams, wait for exams to be mailed in by the instructor, and lets be honest...self-teaching is definitely a lot more work than physically being in class. But to each their own!

I agree, I'd rather not pay but I think in the long run it will be better to pay and take the class at UCLA. Hope we see eachother in class so we can began to establish connections with one another and get to know who we will be surrounded by for the next 2 years. At this point the price of one class will be the least of our worries.

@danceluver,

I like it so far, but I gotta tell you this program is super super intense. U will find yourself doing nothing else beside studying and writing paper work lol For my class schedule, Mon 9-11am, Tue 9am-8 pm (3 classes!), Thu 9am-5pm, Fri 8-11.50 am. For application, I think statement of purpose is quite crucial! Don't forget! There is no interview, so I think they figure out who you are based on what you write in your paper. Btw, try to attend the information session . They provide very good guideline and recommendation about the application process. I hope this helps!

Found this looking thru old threads, a look at how the schedule could be.......

has anyone heard any news from the admissions office recently? We're heading into mid-april. :singing:

They still have yet to reply to my e-mail from, like, a month ago. I really hope all of us get in so later on we can laugh about this over some drinks!

I emailed them last week. One Wednesday, he emailed me back and said we would get notice within the next couple of weeks. I believe someone else posted the same thing on Monday so I'm hoping that means they are planning to let us know by the end of next week. Who knows though!? So anxious!

Also, regarding the Epi class, I noticed there was one offered through UCLA extension. It's about $700. I also work for UCLA so I could get a 25% discount. Does anyone know if they accept that?

I also received an email saying it will be mid to late April. I sent a reply email asking what is considered mid to late April and haven't received any responds. This was Wednesday and Thursday this past week.

@UVAHOO is the ucla extension Epi class still open or is it closed? i Also work at ucla and I took micro thru the extension and they apply the 25%.

I just checked the approved course list and we can take it at extension. I also work at UCLA and got 25% off when I took physio fall quarter. Good to know.

when does it start? I wouldn't mind taking it thru extension, the teachers are usually coo and teacher the topic well.
