UCHEALTH New Grad Residency July 2020

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi, I thought I’d start a thread for those of us applying to uchealth’s new grad program beginning this Summer. Has anyone heard anything as far as interviews? Also do any previous applicants have any advice as far as the interview process goes?

I feel that it's basically gonna be working home health as a new grad at this point. Has anyone had any interviews or heard anything from jobs even though require 6 months to a year of experience?

I feel you. I keep telling myself to be patient. I’ve had so many places cancel or reject me.

Me too. I think that things will get better and more jobs will open up eventually, but this waiting around is worrying me.

Hi everyone I just wanted around and see if you’ve had updates on your status in the new grad program. Do they let you know if you didn’t get in?

Nope I’ve gotten nothing....I thought I crushed the interview for a med-surg in Denver. I guess it’s time to apply to new positions. It seems like they only hire internal applicants for Denver. Nursing is my second degree. My first degree was in cellular/molecular biology with a minor in Chemistry. I worked at a nursing home for a year, volunteered in Kenya for 3 months, did billing/insurance for 7 months, and then did an accelerated nursing program in one year and had a 4.0. I’m not sure what else I could have done....

I haven’t gotten anything either. WOW! you have a lot in your background. I have noticed also that people who were already employees there have gotten offers. I just wish they would say if we aren’t even being considered.

This seems like the classic case of it is "who you know, not what you know," and it is super frustrating. During the interview, they even said that "I really nailed it on the head," for a lot of the questions.

IDK if this will make you feel better, but I’ve worked for uchealth for 2 years and I haven’t even gotten an offer. Times are just tough right now. They were only able to hire 30 applicants this time around.

No that does not make me feel better. TWO YEARS!?! You should have been offered something. Yes times are tough but why would you have applicants write three essays and interview 150 applicants just on Monday, 65 on Tuesday, 31 on Wednesday, and 12 on Thursday just to offer 30 applicants a job?! That is a little unreasonable.

I’m sorry that happened to you. It doesn’t make me feel better either. It makes me feel like I will never get a job, if you didn’t. I have an amazing resume and didn’t even get considered for an interview. I’m from out of state. I don’t think anything will ever be enough at this point and I just feel defeated. Do they normally hire a lot more than 30 each round?:( do we think they will for October cohorts?

I got the official rejection email this morning. I know how you feel. The interview was pretty much a waste of time because I think they already knew who they were going to hire. There was literally nothing more I could do to improve my application. I would imagine they would hire more than 30 just because it is a huge hospital. They said they will have an October cohort that will open July 6th. I doubt I’ll be applying to that. I am pretty disappointed and it’s really not worth going through all that again. Denver is cool but they do not pay nurses that well especially for the cost of living. And at least you know that it is them not you... so keep your head up!

I never got an interview nor did I get a rejection letter or anything stating I didn't get in, but I mean obviously I didn't LOL. I feel like a huge failure, I am also from out of state and I went ahead and moved here (we planned on it anyway and my husband and I both currently work full time online) but I graduated in December so I feel like the longer I don't do something, the harder it will be to get a job and the bigger a failure I am LOL ughhhh. I want to apply for the October cohort but I feel like if I didn't get in twice I'm not getting in so I guess I am gonna apply at nursing homes and home health ? for some reason I thought they normally accepted 60 applicants but I could have just made that up.

They probably do accept 60 normally, if not more. Did you check your application status? I’m not convinced the October cycle will be any better because they lost a lot of money when they canceled elective surgeries. We’re not even getting tuition reimbursement till at least next year and I doubt we’ll get bonuses this year. So yeah IDK if I should wait for the October cohort and risk not getting hired again when I could’ve been working full time and making more somewhere else. I really wanted to begin my career in the hospital setting but it seems impossible at the moment
