UCHEALTH New Grad Residency July 2020

Published

Hi, I thought I’d start a thread for those of us applying to uchealth’s new grad program beginning this Summer. Has anyone heard anything as far as interviews? Also do any previous applicants have any advice as far as the interview process goes?

Hi there,

I heard back just now and did not get an interview. I think they were pretty competitive this year. Does anyone know if COVID had an impact on the amount of people who got interviews?

Did you hear back that you specifically did not get an interview? I applied both for the February 2020 cohort and the July 2020 one and for the February one I never got any information other than almost 2 months later stating that they've filled all the positions. I still have not heard anything yet regarding the July 2020 cohort.

Yes, many hospitals are on a hiring freeze and the one interview I did have I was told they’d only be hiring 1 or 2 people this time around due to covid.

I know that some departments aren’t interviewing until next week so there’s still hope! I’ve had one interview and was only contacted the day before to schedule it.

That is good to know! Just curious, how were you contacted? Was it via email or phone? I am nervous about being able to find a job as a new grad around here (I graduated in December in AR), it seems like unless you get into a residency program you will have a really hard time finding something...

When I applied in February, after interviews were over they sent out an email stating that they were doing additional interviews for Med-Surge units, but I just looked at the email again and it was kind of unclear whether it was for spots in the program or just new grad positions? I am not sure how that works with them. I backpacked to Europe for 2 months after graduation so I didn't look into this as I wouldn't have been able to move here in time to start after traveling. Hopefully they do that again though, but with Covid-19 I'm not sure if that will be an option.

I was contacted by phone, but other students in my cohort were contacted by email. I think it just depends on the unit and who’s doing the interview. Many are virtual so the process is different this time around I think. I am also nervous about not getting a job. I know I could probably work in a nursing home or home care, but I really want to be in the hospital setting.

If you’re open to working at centura, their process is a little different. They interview and give offers while applications are still being accepted. If I don’t get an offer this time around I will apply to UCH again, but will also apply to centura as soon as their application window opens.

I am open to anything at this point, honestly. I have been itching to get started but really wanted to wait for the residency program. I will definitely also be applying for jobs if I don't get an offer either. Thank you so much for all of the info! Good luck! ❤️

Thank you! Best of luck to you!!

Every job I have applied for has essentially sent an automatic email that they don’t hire new grads. Does anyone know of any departments or hospitals or doctor’s offices that will hire new grads? This is so sad y’all! CONGRATS to everyone on finishing nursing school! Wish we could have it pay off by getting hired. :(

I know that MGA and Nurse Core do

I applied to UCH and interviewed for a position in springs and a position in metro. The first interview for the springs did not go so well and I have not heard anything. The second interview was for a med surg position in Denver and I thought it went really well. I am expecting to hear back sometime this week. I have applied to a lot of other places that have cancelled or never responded to my application. It is a difficult time for new grad nurses to find jobs.

I feel that it's basically gonna be working home health as a new grad at this point. Has anyone had any interviews or heard anything from jobs even though require 6 months to a year of experience?
