UCF traditional BSN 2019

Published

Hi

Anybody applying for UCF traditional BSN?

I am a transfer from VCC and submitted my undergraduate application last week.

My overall gpa is 4.0.

teas 72 ☹️ I will retake the test in the beginning of February or late January.

I'm seeing an undergraduate adviser next week and the nursing adviser on January to make sure I haven't missed anything.

I haven't taken any chemistry course and I'm not sure if it's mandatory or not to apply for the program.

Hey! Has anyone made a Facebook page for the Daytona campus? I just got off the waitlist so I'm going to be looking for roommates!

What were your stats??

Hey everyone! I am from NY. Is anyone here an out of state applicant that can give me a better idea of the application process? I would truly like to apply for UCF concurrent program but I'm not sure if there are different requirements for an out of state student.

I don't think there is, but I'm assuming the course names are labeled differently, so you have to make sure the courses you took align with the requirements. I would suggest talking to a nursing adviser

I am originally from Ohio, only one of my prerequisites was taken in Ohio. I had to file an appeal to have it count as a prerequisite. It’s not terribly difficult to file the appeal but you will have to file one for each prerequisite taken in another state. Also, I believe out of state tuition is higher.

The out of state tuition isn't so bad. It's either about the same or maybe even less the cost of some of th private schools our here in NY.

Would you say it is extremely competitive to get into the program? How many seats are available?

Yes, I would say it is very competitive. I believe this last group there were over 800 applicants and 200 accepted between three campuses (Orlando, Daytona, and Cocoa).

I also came from out of state before applying. This is what I had to do.

1. Apply to Seminole State and/or Valencia and UCF

2. Fill out the COLLEGE OF NURSING UNDERGRADUATE PETITION https://nursing.ucf.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/UG-TransferCourse_PetitionInstructions.pdf

***E-mail it as soon as you can. They only meet to review these once a month and you do not want to be worrying about if they'll accept your classes a month before the nursing application is due. You will get an e-mail once they review it and approve or deny your out of state classes.

***Include ALL nursing pre-reqs taken out of state. This includes General Chemistry, General Biology, Microbiology with lab, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology (or A&P I and II), General Psychology, General Sociology, Principles of Statistics, Developmental Psychology, Human Nutrition.

3. Make sure all of those prerequisite classes transfer to the state college(s) (Seminole or Valencia.) I had troubles with my Nutrition transferring from Colorado and my Developmental Psych transferring from Washington. So I had to call a couple times to talk to somebody about it. Keep a copy of the course descriptions on hand (from the UCF petition) just in case they need them.

Once everything transfers over, you are good to go and all you need to do is apply for the programs as normal and wait for a response.

Side Notes:

When you get accepted and move to Florida make sure to get your drivers license/vehicle registration/voters registration switched over ASAP. I waited a year to switch everything over, so I had to pay out of state tuition longer than I should have ?

I know this is long-winded, but I really hope it helps you and anybody else out there looking to apply from out of state.

Also, if anybody is transferring Quarter credits to a Semester based school like UCF, it gets a little more difficult. I would recommend talking to a UCF adviser in that case. They explained my options very well when I was faced with the problem.

Here's the link for the admission statistics

https://nursing.ucf.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/UG-BSN_AdmissionStatistics_Ranges.pdf

When you look at this, keep in mind that these statistics are based off a pool of around 489 applicants for the traditional programs...this year they received over 600 applicants for the traditional programs, so it probably became even more competitive.

The amount of seats per program is shown on the statistics page.

Hey THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUCH A DETAILED DESCRIPTION! Should I list classes that are currently being taken? Right now my Chemistry is in progress. Would I get denied from the program for not having my nutrition course completed? I can probably complete the nutrition course early summer.

No, I would honestly wait until you have all of them finished. But you can ask an adviser to see how they would prefer you to go about it. You can have one class in progress when you apply to UCF, but Seminole state will put you in a lower bracket for having incomplete pre-requisites. Make sure your nutrition course has diet therapy if you are applying to the concurrent programs.

Has anyone who was waitlisted heard anything?
