UCF Summer 2018 Second Degree BSN

Published

Is anyone else applying to the Summer 2018 Second Degree BSN cohort at the University of Central Florida? It seems like it is taking forever for the actual application to open up (January 1).

Hoping to see some other folks just as excited as I am!!

I was unable to upload it as a one page essay. I had to cut and paste, which was frustrating since I didn't answer in a completely linear fashion (and worked so hard to make it all fit!). I'm assuming they updated the way the application was submitted without changing the guidelines.

Is anyone else getting their background checks/ drug screens done? Not sure if I should wait to find out whether I'm accepted first or go ahead and get them done.

Jessica said we don't have to do it until we know if we got in or not.

Hi Lanntis,

Sorry it took me so long but I did get a bit of information about the admins in the DNP program here at UF. There's a different director and everyone seems to like the way she runs things, especially compared to the BSN director. Some of the administration does overlap but overall I heard good things. Best of luck with your application!

Lanntis - Thank you again for answering our questions.

If accepted, what would our weekly schedule be like? I remember you saying the clinical times can vary, but what about lectures and labs?

@Goldenmoose

For Accel cohorts classes are almost always going to be on Monday and Wednesday mornings. In your first semester it goes about like this:

Monday: 8:30-4:20ish (with a lunch break and various small breaks throughout the day) (Essentials of nursing practice and Health Assessment classes)

Tuesday: Labs for essentials and health assessment classes (you are given the option to state a preference for A.M. labs or P.M. labs. I did P.M. because I hate morning. That ran from about 1-5 p.m.

Wednesday: 8:30-4:20ish again (Pathophysiology and Health promotions classes) (lunch break in there)

Thursday: depends on your clinical for community care nursing and then long term health

Friday: same as Thursday. Sometimes you'll have Thursdays off, sometimes you'll have a Friday off.

The schedule is crazy the first semester (thus the accelerated) but you're so busy it will go by quickly. After first semester, you have free Tuesdays which is nice.

Treat it like a 9-5 job because that's essentially how the program is structured. You'll never worry about a lecture class filling up. It's all pre-set for your cohort. You just sign up for the specific courses when you're told to and everyone will have the same instructors and times for the lectures (lab instructors differ depending on what group/time slot you sign up for, and clinicals do have 8-9 slots per group and those locations differ so you have to choose quickly what site you want from what they offer you and get it before other people in your cohort fill up that clinical site!)

Hope that helps!

I just checked on my status and it is now saying "Eligible." Hopefully this means that we will be hearing on a decision soon.

Can confirm, I'm "Eligible" now as well. From previous years, we should be finding out in March.

Do we have to sign up for orientation? I got a call about it, but I didn't think we had to especially since we don't know if we got accepted yet.

orientation for UCF sucks, don't do it until you know you have to lol

I got the same call and I just missed it! I had to leave a message when I called back. Was it about an orientation for students that are new to UCF?

All new ucf students must attend the orientation yes, it's long and boring but getting it out of the way cam he nice!

For admission decisions, I inquired for you all yesterday and admissions will go out March 1st-8th

Hope that helps. Good luck to you all.
