UCF Cocoa Beach/Daytona Spring 2013

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I am a pre-nursing student attending UCF Orlando Campus. I am applying this summer to Cocoa Beach and Daytona Campuses to start Spring 2013! Eeek! I know there have been other forums regarding previous admissions to the program that have helped me to figure where I stand. I thought it would be nice to have a chance to meet each other, talk about our scores, and answer or ask questions regarding the application process!

I think I did allright, but there was know way of knowing what they were expecting from us interviewees, it was their first time doing interviews for UCF as well. It wasn't as intimidating as I thought it would be. I sure wish I knew what % of point system they are using was for the interview vs. grades and TEAS scores. I'm not sure what they weigh more heavily. I would feel sick to my stomach after all this work to be the 37 highest when theres only 36 spots (cocoa). I think there was 130-something people in total for the 72 spots. Good luck and keep crossing the fingers!

Hi everyone!

Does anyone remember the names of all interviewers? I was thinking about sending a thank-you e-mail to the interviewers and I just realized that, unfortunately, I remember only two of them by name, although their faces and stories were quite memorable. I didn't do that well during this interview, but I thought that at least I could thank them for taking the time to listen to my babbling

Thanks

I think we all had different interviewers, which two did you remember?. Also I am not sure how I did because one of the first questions dealt with the most challenging thing we ever had to deal with and the most difficult decision we ever made and everyones stories were so painful and touching and when it came to be my turn I was already so moved by all the stories and I told them the painful truth that the most challenging thing in my life was the death of my mother(which was violent, she was killed by an abusive man), and the decision we made to move to florida closer to my grandparents on my fathers side and get away from my mothers side. That part of my life is really difficult for me to open up about, especially when Im nervous and want this so bad, and so I teared up and had to stop talking about it. I got through the most important parts (I didnt go into detail) and I was fine after that question but man it was hard to answer. I know that crying at an interview is bad form and shows emotional instability but they asked the toughest question that couldve ever been asked for me I just hope my emotions about what happened to me didnt cost me a spot because I truly want this more than anything. I think all my other questions went well though....

They are REALLY going to have their work cut out for them because EVERYONE in my group was an excellent interviewer. I wish everyone the best of luck!

I don't think showing your emotions in that situation will compromise your score. That is a very serious, intense experience and if anything, it shows that you are a compassionate individual and most of all, a human being. Furthermore, it will show that you can genuinely empathize with others dealing with tough situations. I can't even imagine what that would be like to endure. My heart goes out to you.

Yes the interviewers were different for every group. The 10 am interviews had five groups of 5-6 students, and 3 interviewers, so that makes approx 15 interviewers (at least). We were not so much graded on our specific answers to the questions but rather how we responded, carried ourselves, presentation... etc. I have heard this through multiple sources. For those of you who keep posting questions on here (although we all love to help each other out) I strongly encourage you to attend an information session. It will help you gain a lot of perspective and understanding on UCF's nursing programs. The dates and times are posted on UCF's CON website.

As always, best of luck to everyone!

I can tell by your post I was in the same group as you(I was the guy to your right) and I think you did great! I feel like you showed just the right amount of emotion and have nothing to worry about.

I am incredibly sorry about your mother. I remember how distraught I was when my mother learned that she had breast cancer. Even the thought of losing her was unbearable. But I really think it would have been a consolation for your mother's parents to have you closer to them, especially after losing their daughter. Nevertheless, that would have made it even more painful for you. I could only imagine how painful must be for you to relieve that experience by talking about it, but I am sure that your mother would be so proud of the person you've become and that this experience, with all the pain associated with it, will make you a wonderful nurse. I wish you all the best.

I think emotions form that type of question hould be expected, They probably see you as a brave and caring person; the exact thing they want in a nurse. Good luck, I'm rooting for you!

I thought my group was also equally good. We all have ruff situations to deal with. I lost my best childhood friend to a violent murder that made front page news back home and I understand a bit of how u feel, losing someone by violence is always shocking and difficult to accept. While you may not think you did well, it does show that you do have the support here to get through things, and that is important.

The other question that worried me was the one about greatest barrier in the program and greatest support. I said my current job and finances was greatest barrier because I'd have to leave it in order to go to school fulltime. They might think , hey theres no was he will leave his job in this economy and I might loose my spot too. I dont know, I guess we will just have to see how it goes. I don't know if talking about personal decisions was wise or not. I could have just said my greatest challange would be long hours of studying or something plutonic like that, but like I said before I just planned on being myself and if they dont like me, well then so be it.

Everyone did great in the interviews I really dont know how they will cut almost half of us based on the decisions they have to make but it would seem like they want people not with just great gpa's but well rounded students who got what it takes to finish the program and become a nurse.

Thanks you guys, you are all really supportive about this :) It was really hard to post this on here, or talk about it at my interview, but I know I cant be the only person who has ever cried on an interview when talking about life experiences and I hope others read this one day and dont feel so alone. @IteckRa there were a lot more mitigating factors in our decision to leave, there were a lot of bad things going on that I didnt need to be raised around (enough said).... but yes they definitely wouldve been happier had I stayed, and it hurt so much to leave them too. Believe me there was no easy choice, which is what made that decision the hardest one to make(and talk about) and I hope that came across in my interview...

@man-nurse2b I am not sure how they will take our answers to some of these questions because they all can definitely go either way. I would hope they want real people who arent being elusive about their jobs and families and other responsibilities, and I would hope they'd have respect for all of you that have to work for a living or care for a family or both because I certainly do. I definitely do not think they should hold that againt anyone. I guess only time will tell for all of us and depending on their decisions everyone who applies from here on out will know exactly what to say and what not to say I guess lol (round of applause for the guinea pigs!) Anyhow good luck to us all, thanks for being there you guys :)

I was just reading last years UCF Daytona thread "Anyone apply for UCF nursing 2011 at Daytona Beach" and seems like they got acceptance letters around September 1 for the Spring 2012, boy they are late with us this time around. Tommorrow should be D-Day I'll be checking email soon as I come from work, this is scarier than halloween.:nailbiting:
