Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm starting this new thread for those interested in applying to UC Davis's Master's Entry Program Summer 2021 program. Hoping this will be a space where we all can ask questions/connect.

Hope you are all staying healthy!

I got accepted!
I live in Orange County ??‍♀️But I did go to Davis for my undergrad!
Still waiting to hear back from 4 more schools but Davis is in my top 2!

I applied last year and got waitlisted. They won’t release what spot you are on the waitlist. I will say that if you end up not getting in, that they did send an email giving the reason why. Last year they said that my writing wasn’t strong enough. That is all it came down to. I spent the past year working on the essays and how I could better answer them and that paid off. Don't give up!

That’s very encouraging!

did you reapply while you were waiting to hear back about being waitlisted? Or did you apply again the following Spring after ?

I just can’t imagine waiting another year again.

@YYR They gave out no info. A lot of us emailed and asked but it was the same response of "If you are on the waitlist, you will be notified if you are taken off and offered admission by the week of orientation." It is really frustrating to not know where you stand.

@Sarah Sarah I applied in 2019 for the 2020 cohort. So last February I found out I was on the waitlist, and that was the only school I heard back from. I started working on the application again in May just in case I didn't get accepted. At the end of June I got the official rejection letter with the suggestions on how to improve my application (the only school that did this!!) and completely redid everything. I started working on the 2 additional essays for the grad school app as soon as I was done with the initial app!

While it is a whole year, it goes by fast since you are waiting and waiting and then the application will open up again! I said the same thing last year and was really discouraged by how things went...but keep working hard and it WILL happen!!

Thank you so much for your advice.

Sorry if I keep buggin with my questions.

Did you keep the same references and didn’t retake any classes aside from working on your essays?

@Sarah Sarah I changed 1 reference, from one of my managers to another. Still at the same exact job and all. I didn't retake any classes or add anything else to my resume. I majorly changed my essays for the secondary application. The first time around I had a very hard time making the two different. Also, the more you write applications and apply to places, the easier it gets with every application. You get to find your voice in your writing, figure out what is really important and what not!

Anyone know anyone who actually got accepted while being on waitlist?

Hi everyone!
I got waitlisted too. I’m from the Bay Area. I am staying optimistic.

Does anyone who got in care to share their stats? Also any tips from second time appliers would be helpful! Thank you

@zfeldWhat made you change your reference.

I know someone that got off the waitlist last year. It was her second time applying.

Do you think people who are second time appliers get priority?

I'm not sure about "priority" but I definitely think that the school sees their persistence and maybe compares the first and second apps to see how much they want it? obviously just speculating but who knows.

@nursecap I didn't get along well with that manager and she ended up quitting, made more sense to switch it to the friendlier manager.

GPA wise I had a little above a 3.5 overall. Prerequisites were almost all done at UC Davis, and got B's in most, A's in everything else.

I started a club while I did my undergrad there and it had a huge impact on the community and hospitals in the area (dressing up as princesses and visiting kids in hospitals and homeless shelters)! I also volunteered in the pediatric ER at UCDMC for 6 months. I currently work in a pediatric mental health crisis stabilization unit for kids that have attempted suicide, having a psychotic episode, homicidal ideation, etc. My extracurriculars and work experience are pretty extensive!!

Does anyone know if those who emailed them and accepted their spot on the waitlist will get a response confirming your acceptance of the waitlist?
