Hiya folks!
It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.
Is anyone else already excited for next September?

Then when I decided to make a career change into nursing I did my A&P in 2019 and got an A. After not getting into UBC for the 2020 intake, I then did some more courses (Psychology (A+) Health Ethics (B), Critical Reading & Writing (A+). So I’m really up against it with all the bright young minds who will be applying...!!
What was your previous career?

My grades and experiences are similar but I am hoping my casper score improved as that is what broke my application last year I think. I think UBC weighs casper the heaviest. Last year I got 1 on grades (top 25%), 2 on supplemental (top 50%) and 3 on casper (top 75%). I was waitlisted.
I have a 4.20 on a 4.33 scale and I am 4th year student at UBC in Animal Welfare.
I have worked as a veterinary assistant at two different animal emergency hospitals. I have volunteered alongside nurse practitioners at a downtown eastside clinic that serves vulnerable children and families. I also volunteered at the Vancouver Aquarium as a teaching assistant in the biology lab for children and I volunteered at the Marine Mammal Rescue which rehabilitates lots of seal pups and other marine mammals. I also worked as a supervisor at a patisserie for a couple of years.
Sadly, we can't know our casper scores until we get the application results.

Oh nooo, don’t say that!! I know it’s nerve-racking having to wait for the result and I’m sure we’re all on the same boat, but it’s going to be okay. I think no matter what the result is, we have to keep going if this is what we really want to do. Sending hugs to you!!

I worked within marketing and comms. Got into volunteering as soon as I realized I wanted to make a career change into nursing quit my job which was all I knew, and now working in a hospital (albeit in the corporate office) but still great experience and exposure. Not sure what plan B will be if I don't get in. I applied to the government HCAP program which starts in September. I might have to just settle as I don't have age on my side here.

The casper is pretty brutal. I will have to look at my letter from last year as I honestly don't remember what my scores were. I may have even got rid of it as I was so destroyed not to get in. Good luck - you've got a lot of strong credentials!

To be honest, lots of people change careers later in life and from I hear UBC and BCIT has a fair amount of mature students in nursing. Did you apply to other nursing schools as well? I started uni myself in my mid 20s.

Thanks. The thing about casper is you never really know how well you did because it is so subjective. I think I did better this round but who knows. Good luck to you aswell! Hopefully we get some good news.

Hi folks! We might hear back either this Friday or by the end of next week at the latest, so I decided to come here and spread some positivity. I know I am losing my sanity, so just remember that you are not alone at all. We are all in this together! You are all amazing human beings with a lot to offer to the healthcare community. Please stay positive, and your time to shine will come soon! I really hope that we all get those acceptance letters ❤️
