UBC Nursing

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anybody is also applying to the UBC Nursing program this year for the 2009 intake...and also, for those that are in the program, or have graduated from the program, would you kindly please tell me what the program is like, as well as your admission average (based on the 30 credits that UBC Nursing looks at) and your supplemental application...to better prep myself for the application process.

thanks in advance.

Me too Simplicity! Do you know if everyone gets put on the waitlist? Do you know if we can find out what number we are on the waitlist?

I'm interested to get that stuff in the mail to see the breakdown...and see where I went wrong!

I am also curious about the breakdown. I have emailed them to ask them how many people are on the wait list...I THINK the number of people on the wait list should be around the number of people they expect to decline their offer (or else the wait list makes no sense). I am pretty sure I messed up on those ethical questions...I had the nagging feeling I was talking in a complete circle, and that's not a good sign.

But I do know that quite a few people gets in from the wait list, so keep thinking positive! We made it this far, and we are good enough to get in! Oh and I don't know if UBC Nursing gives out the rank you are in the wait list...it might not be fair to others on the wait list, if you get what I mean.

Keep thinking positive! We're almost there...the main thing to keep in mind is that we weren't rejected. We have a very good chance of getting those spots =)

Hey everyone,

I just found this forum discussion. I wish i saw it sooner! I also applied for Sept 2009 intake and just recieved my letter of acceptance to UBC today. I know a few ppl who are on the waiting list and they also have heard that they have a good chance of getting accepted too. So hang tight!! I wish you all the best!

hi lazz1, thanks for the positive vibe. Do you know how many people are on the wait list, and by good chance, how good of a chance is that? Because I am wondering if I should apply for some other programs at UBC.

hey, no I dont know the number on the waitlist. I heard that 85% percent get into the program if on the waitlist, but i have no clue how many people are listed. Perhaps applying to other programs might be a good way to give you some options, but i wouldn't assume yet that you wont be accepted :)

where did you hear the 85% from! Cuz that's really an astronomical number!! haha, no I'm not assuming I didn't get in yet (I'm the type to think that the glass is half full, not empty), but I do want to have a plan B should this not work out.

opps i'm sorry I meant 75%. that was a typo. I heard this from someone who is waitlisted and she heard it from the admissions team back while she was applying. I'm really sorry for the typo guys!

Not to worry, 75% is still an astronomical number. So I'm pretty happy after hearing that news! I have a pretty good chance =)

Hey Simplicity,

I just emailed 'information' at UBC, and apparently they only took 23 for the wait list. And she gave me my place on the wait list.

Good information to know....I guess just more waiting...

yeah, I actually went to UBC Hospital to ask them the same thing just now. My place on the wait list isn't high, so I'm a bit worried. She said that last year ~20 people from the waitlist got in, and that the applicants have til June 30th to make a decision on the offer...but then again last year it was 120 seats, so there were more seats that can be juggled, but this year it's 90 seats. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for now, but I won't be disappointed if I don't get a spot.

Hmm, I just heard some pretty strange rumour, and I'm not sure how much to trust it. I really hope its a mistake, because if it isn't, I'm going to feel cheated.

This girl I know applied last year, got interview, but didn't make the cut. She was not wait listed. She applied this year, but didn't get interview. But apparently, UBC sent her an acceptance letter. She showed me the email--it actually is genuine. I just told her to ask UBC about it, because to me that makes no sense whatsoever. Because if that's the case...I'm really going to feel cheated. I'm thinking it's a mistake, but I could be wrong. If its not a mistake...I don't know. I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it, but at the same time, to be offer admission without going through the process is a bit...not fair to everybody else.

I guess I'm just venting here. Please excuse me.

It's probably quite legitimate. They wouldn't necessarily have interviewed her this year if she interviewed well last year and they had her on their list of qualified applicants but weren't able to offer her a spot. Things like that happen all the time. "Unsuccessful candidates' applications may be retained for a period of x months and may be considered for future vacancies" sort of thing. There will always be more applications than seats.
