Hey Everyone!
I'm hoping to apply for UBC nursing 2013, but I am a little worried as I haven't volunteered for 2 years. My question is, if I get back into volunteering this summer will my chances of being accepted be higher?
Thank you!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone who has been emailing me questions - I'm happy to help wherever I can haha! :). As for how many people got off the waitlist during my year of entry, I have no idea what the exact number was..but I was told by someone who had entered the 2009 cohort onthis forum that at least 17 people got off the waitlist that year! Don't give up hope-I have heard of stories of people getting into the program just a few days before the start of class...and be proud that you made it on the waitlist-that's a great achievement, considering how competitive admission is :).
Hey guys,
My name is Elissa and I was also accepted into the 2nd entry program at UBC for Sept 2013! This was really freaking awesome....until I got accepted at York University as well. I really want to go to UBC, but because I am from Toronto, YorkU has the added advantage of being closer to home. Anyways, I'm sure you all don't care about my life story but I'd really appreciate it if anyone had some information or tips that could help me make my decision. I'm so torn and am just looking for any form of guidance.
Thank you in advance! I already like you guys :)
Hey nme1990,
I was just accepted to UofT today. I have a lot of info about UBC's program...if you want to switch info (I know very little about UofT) you can contact me via e-mail at [email protected]
i haven't attended nursing programs at either school, but i have attended both york and ubc in undergrad so here's some general things about each campus.
i'd say ubc is a better school in most respects: more organized, more scenic buildings, more activities, a lot more to do around/near campus including nice beaches and cute cafes and pubs. tuition is a bit cheaper than york because of provincial differences, but off-residence housing is more expensive and more difficult to find. vancouver is a very pretty city and i miss it. ubc's people can be a bit snobby as can vancouver people in general, but most people are still nice, especially in the nursing program i would assume. vancouver is a bit more expensive of a city. ubc is kind of cut-off from the rest of the city, which is good and bad. it's "cut off" nicely though, by ocean on three sides and a big park on the other. nice temperatures all year, but it rains a lot.
york doesn't have a lot of cute/fun things around campus. there's campus, and then only really fast food and strip malls in the surrounding area. admin is notoriously disorganized, but you only have to deal with admin a few times a year. teachers are a little more approachable at least for arts and physiology-type courses, but a little less passionate. it's not snobby, which i like. there's cheap housing nearby and most things are cheaper. i don't like rain, so i prefer the weather here.

Hi there! :) Ah, the start of nursing school - I still remember all the excitement and the great energy! I'm wishing the VERY BEST for all of you! I would definitely love to answer any questions you may have. I'm currently studying for the national licensing exam (the $700 exam required to get our RN designation
), but I will definitely make time to answer your questions during my study breaks
. For anyone who has questions about the program or the nursing profession in general, feel free to email me at [email protected]. Keep in mind that I will be speaking from MY PERSONAL perspective and experiences from the program and it's a good idea to get a large variety of opinions, but I will definitely do my best to answer any questions, and share my thoughts and experiences with you. Take care, everyone!!
