UBC Nursing Interview....Help!!!

Published

Hello,

I've just got a quick question for you all today. On thursday I was given an interview for the accelerated BSN program at UBC. The interview is set for this monday, and at present I'm frantically trying to prepare for the interview. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback as to the interview itself....ie questions, number of interviewers...etc.

Thank you so much for your help.

Darrell

Wow.. I actually applied this year and I still haven't heard from them yet?

They said they are still accepting transcripts up until June 15th.. are there different batches of interviewees?

were you notified by letter mail or email?

one more thing.. after you have the interview, please let us know how it goes! and what questions they ask!!

all I know about the interview process is.. they'll ask you one question for sure.. "Why do you want to be a nurse?" so prepare for that one.. and if it's anything like their pharmacy interview the rest of the questions will be pretty generic.. describe a time when you worked well in a team etc.

after the interview there is supposed to be an essay portion as well... you'll be asked to write an essay immediately after the interview that is unrelated to nursing i believe.. (don't quote me on this) better to prepare for both nursing related and unrelated topics!

good luck! hopefully I'll get my invite soon too..

thanks for your feedback. i have to get on the plane to go to vancouver in a couple of hours...so i have to run. i'll certainly post some feedback after the interview.

good luck.

oh yeah...i was notified by telephone...by ruxandra dinu

I also applied this year but haven't heard from them about an interview. The last email I received was from Ruxandra telling me that the application process would close on June 15. They have started the interviews much earlier than I thought they would.

Oh man.. bad news.. they sent out all the invites already by phone ..

Interviews really ARE this week.. monday/tuesday for sure.. why couldn't they contact us by email.. it'd be so much easier...

Oh well... We tried... It's depressing for sure, but there are other colleges and universities that will take us. Where there is a will, there is a way.

so parm, how did the interview go? what kinda questions were asked?

Hello all. Just got back from Vancouver today. Here's the scoop.

Questions:

"why nursing"

"strengths/weaknesses"

"what are qualities of a nurse"

"name a time you were confronted with a problem, and how did you deal with it"

"experience working with people"

"give examples where you have been in leadership roles"

Essay Questions

pick from one of the three

1) what is the biggest challenge of the bc medical system at this time.

2) describe what you believe the primary roles of a nurse are as part of an integrated health care team.

3) what do you thing the most important bodies of knowledge are in the study of nursing.

At the end you have an opportunity to talk about yourself, so be prepared for that.

The interviewer were very friendly, and did their best to make me feel at ease. Just be yourself.

Hope this helps.

I will find out in a couple of weeks the outcome.

Darrell

This post is old news but I just wanted to conclude it by saying that I got invited for an interview after all. I went for my interview on a Wednesday and today I got an email advising me that I have been accepted and will start school in Jan 07. Thank you to all those who provided information about the UBC SON application process.
