UBC course load and an "exotic" part-time job.

Published

Hi everyone!

I applied to UBC nursing for the 2013 intake and I have some questions. I hope people here won't judge me and will be open-minded.

I'm 22 years old and I've been dancing as an exotic dancer for 3 years to put myself through university. I just recently finished up a double major at UBC in women's studies and psychology and now I feel like going back and getting a degree in nursing. I feel it's my destiny (my mom was a nurse and a single-mom).

I am wondering how heavy the work-load is in UBC's 2 year program. I really love my job as an exotic dancer for a variety of reasons. First of all, I make great money. It has put me through school and has allowed me to live quite the posh lifestyle. I also love the feeling of empowerment it gives me. I feel super sexy and it gives me a rush every time I step on stage. Would I be able to continue to dance part-time while doing nursing?

I am also wondering if stripping part-time is frowned upon. Omg I just hate lying so I did mention in my application that I am a dancer.

Thanks for reading.

Not to mention if you are stripping for a gentleman you cared for and like, had to wipe their butts or something. Gross and WEIRD.

Yeah I would not dance in the same town or even county where I worked as nurse. Holy awkwardness , batman

To me, "involving sex" is not exclusive of the act of sexual intercourse. One of the definitions of provocative (as used in "provocative dancing") is "sexually arousing". So yeah, my definition of "involving sex" includes dancing so as to sexually arouse.

As far as what goes on in strip clubs, it's pretty cut-and-dry (no pun intended)... I know naked people aren't humping all over the place for money, but I'm hard-pressed (again, no pun intended) to think of a reason adult entertainment clubs such as these exist without thinking of sex.

Anyway, I bet the OP a pair of stillettos so we'll see what happens two years down the road!

but thinking about having sex, and having sex are 2 different things...guaranteed most people "think" about having sex numerous times a day without actually doing it...some men get aroused by a fully clothed woman - so then your definition should include women dressed from ankles to neck!!

sounds like the definition is awfully prude to me!

I hope the OP takes responses with a grain of salt, as most have not been a stripper or likely ever been to a strip club and some are likely not even nurses.

Do what makes you happy and pays the bills, provided its legal, it will not prohibit you from becoming a nurse. I have known several nurses and physicians who have stripped their way through school: I never knew any of them did until they told me so years later.

Your life is as private as you want it to be. If you Facebook friend every person you ever met including coworkers, it can be a problem. If you fiend only true friends I doubt it ever will.

Shy... I will see your stilettos and raise you two lap dances. The OP will be fine. I know a lot of current and ex strippers with regular jobs, many in health care. It has not mattered. The only person it really seems to matter to is YOU. Lighten up there, home skillet.

Thanks for your input, but perhaps you don't understand. We were not defining "having sex" we were defining "involving sex";

I didn't argue that thinking about it and having it are one in the same BUT don't both thinking about and having sex (among other things... such as provocative dancing) involve sex? Semantics, really.

You support your argument by noting men who get aroused by fully clothed women and how much people think about sex (not to mention calling my definition "prude" when it doesn't seem like you are fully grasping the conversation)... Do you know of anyone who goes to strip clubs to think of puppies and rainbows? Do you know any strippers who stay fully clothed from the ankles to neck while working at the strip club? Do you think guys would pay $20 a lap dance for a woman in Victorian garb? If so, sign me up!

I was betting that she'd be fine... I was betting that it wouldn't matter in two years. So I'd call your two lap dances, but it seems we are kind of on the same side...

You got to assert your opinion, so I asserted mine. It doesn't matter to me anymore than that, home skillet

I am pretty sure I have seen a stripper wearing Victorian garb. Right before she took it off.
