Published

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

It stil says "Your file is ready for an evaluation!" despite the fact that I wrote the CASPer last Sunday. anyone else on the same boat? should i be concerned?

Our casper test takes about 3 weeks to evaluate so i wouldn’t be worrying much about it until early april. Even then, i think past years didn’t hear anything about acceptances until late april. Everything’s gonna be alright! Just a bit of a waiting game at this point.

Hi mb96! I agree but I have a few friends who are already nurses who assured me that it does help a bit when you're on the job if you have to make ethical decisions etc... I'm just glad it's over! ?

Now the dreadful waiting lol ?

Yeah it helps for sure lol

Obviously the CASPer wasn’t healthcare-tailored so that those who don’t have specific clinical experience (like myself) aren’t at a disadvantage. If anything I think the CASPer was easier to complete for people who have some customer/foodservice experience. It’s definitely about the character of the person and what they’ve been through that helps them make ethical decisions. Some questions were weird ?

Interesting haha! My older cousins who are nurses said taking the CASPer was a waste of time for them XD It’s a useful tool either way!

Definitely mixed reviews about it! I got some weird questions too, I just typed as fast as I could to answer each question lol. I do however wonder how much of the Casper score is taken into account for admission...?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if UBC has disclosed the individual weights of the application?

I’m assuming GPA ~40-50%, CASPer (25-30%) + Supplemental (25-30%)? What do you think? Anyone receive feedback when applying to prior cycles?

Thank you!! Good luck everyone.

Hey! I’ve read in previous threads that applicants who were rejected get a breakdown of their CASPer + Supplemental + GPA and how they fared against other applicants/what they can do to improve their application next time, but I don’t wanna wait for a rejection in order to find that out lol

Rough numbers according to other people are: GPA ~50-60%, Supplemental 30-40%, and CASPer 10-20%? Literally not sure, though!

That makes more sense, especially with CASPer since I’ve heard conflicting things about its objectivity. Thank you for your input! I appreciate it ?

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to speed up time? ?. This waiting is awful. Good luck everyone!

I was reading through the forum for last year, the class that started in September 2018 was notified around May 8/9 and the class that started September 2017 was notified around April 27th ish... It's going to be a long few weeks. I had to sign a 2-month lease since we haven't been told yet and I don't know where I'll be heading! As soon as I hear from UBC I can start the move to Vancouver!

I'm just occupying my time reading books, cleaning the house, working, and socializing to get my mind off of it lol

This 2nd half of March & April are my last months of vacation before I head to Langara for summer school (taking Nursing prereqs there just in case) so I hope we get a decision before then ?

Ack! That sounds like a SUPER long wait! And yeah pre-planning living arrangements is scary when you aren't given a solid decision yet. If you don't mind me asking, where are you coming from?

I'd be coming up from Seattle so it's not super far but I didn't want to sign a lease here in Seattle for a year and then get into UBC and be stuck trying to find someone to take my lease. I already got rejected from Seattle U and UBC is a long shot for me but I had to try!
