UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

From what I’ve heard from past years is they may or may not contact your references, even if you are accepted!

I would say a general knowledge of all things taught in the pre-req A+P class is enough! Nursing specific A+P is taught in all classes and you can review as needed.

The clinicals are the best part in my opinion, where I learnt the most. You are in clinical groups of 5-8 students with an instructor, in various sites. You progress through, slowly getting more responsibilities, until your final preceptorship when the expectation is that you carry a full patient load. (You're ready when you get there ? )

The program can be a little annoying at time administratively, as anything can be. But the friends you make and what you learn is so worth it!

Thank you so much. That’s very helpful. Good luck with everything!

Great question, I was actually wondering whether they contact them at all.

I also heard that they may or may not contact your references! Typically, they don't recently (according to other forums I read, but of course it's always good to know).

Thanks guys! Good to know. Makes me feel better, just in case my references say that they haven't heard anything. Maybe they just call references if they're torn between two applicants?

They let most people know if they did or didn't get in on the same day, however lots of people received acceptances up until August!

I did not have my references contacted and I do not know of anyone who did!

Up until August! Yes, that's what happened with my classmate who got his acceptance from UBC Nursing the last week of August 2017, so it really threw his vacation plans out of whack.

I do hope I get a decision - acception or rejection - way before then to stop all this stress ?

Ok, that's what I figured about the reference process this time - many people I talked to said their references weren't contacted ? It's good to know either way

For the people who are accepted in August, are they aware that they're on some sort of waitlist or do they just not hear back until then? :o Seems so late and I feel like most people would have settled on other options by this tome.

I can ask him! Most likely they were on a waitlist. I also heard something about the program not having enough people to fill their spots around 2017/2018 after some students who were accepted decided not to attend, and they had to offer admission to those who were initially rejected (after those on the waitlist). I don’t know if this is credible, but it’s something to think about.

It’s totally late! Which is why I’ll decide to stay at Langara (taking pre-reqs for their Nursing program this summer) and apply for their Nursing Sept 2020 program if I don’t hear back from UBC by June/July at the latest.

I believe if one was rejected then they wouldn’t change that. Maybe they put up to 50 people on the wait list? What do you think ?

Ive never heard of a school sending out an acceptance after they originally rejected them, but theres a first time for everything!
