UA MEPN 2019

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hey guys I know we have months before the application due date but I have just recently decided that I am going to apply for UA's MEPN program. I'm currently finishing up microbiology and will finish off my prerequisites once I complete organic chemistry in the fall. I am extremely excited and also nervous to be applying. I still have to take the HESI so if you guys can offer any tips on how to prepare for it especially the vocab section that'd be great! Does anyone know how many apply vs are accepted and the stats of those who are usually accepted into the program? Also I'd greatly appreciate any insight on how the program is from students that have graduated from the program or current students of the program. Thanks!

@jnurseapp Congratulations!! To add onto immunizations- I'd recommend opting for the QuantiFeron Gold TB blood test. You'll only have to go into your doctor's office once for the blood draw, so that will save you some time.

I got accepted to the Phoenix location. I did not get an email from the graduate college yet but should i just create a UA net id?

I'm not sure if you can. I already had mine because I went to u of a prior. And the grad college does take a varying amount of time to send you the confirmation.

Thank you! I have most of my immunizations including TB from volunteering at the hospital:)

@jnurseapp congrats!!! We were messaging a while back, So glad you got in! Looking forward to actually meeting you!

Hey guys!

Sorry I haven't been on here since interviews! Clinicals and papers are killing me guys. Anyway! If anyone has any questions I can answer for you, please let me know! I know the packet is the biggest pain to get completed before you guys start in a month (can't believe we will be getting a new class soon!) but also remember to take some time to go on vacation or get away for a weekend somewhere. Relax before school starts. You won't have time to do regular life once school starts lol.

@Igotinlastyear I know each academic calendar year is slightly different, but can you tell me if November was a hectic month for you? I am trying to plan a wedding (as if I didn't have enough to take on this year) a weekend in November and praying that it won't be at the worst time possible. If not, could you tell me a month that was possibly a "slower" time in the program?

I posted this on the MEPN Facebook site and you can reply there (might be better).

Anyone interested in a group get-together in Tucson Friday evening, April 12 or Saturday afternoon April 13? I missed the last big one and it would be great to meet more people before class starts.

I'm planning a quick move unloading from out of state and watching the Spring Football game. I'm sure there's no one interested in going to the free game at 5pm in Arizona Stadium.

I'll be moving in for good May 2 (Please don't ransack my place in the meantime).

@CBanks05So most of Level 2 is really hectic and the worst semester for most people. You'll have 519A - your nursing class - 519B - the clinical portion of the class - and pharmacology. I'll try to attach our schedule for this semester, but while October, November, and December look not so bad, it will be taken up with your med-surg rotation and pediatric rotation. Peds isn't bad because it's only 2 weeks but med-surg you'll have 18 shifts. So thats 2 12 hour shifts a week, plus your regular nursing class, plus pharmacology. I'd say "slowest" month is end of July/beginning of August. Youll be ending level 1 at this point and you'll also have a week and a half break before level 2 starts.20190402_215909.jpg.3a763a97e1195cda46a42289370cbdac.jpg

@Igotinlastyear Thank you so much, this was really helpful! Im getting a little anxiety looking at the schedule but I'll keep pushing forward one day at a time..

I wish you continued success with your clinicals and papers. It will all be worth it and you're so close to the end!

UPDATE:

So I'll be coming from out of town to Tucson later this week and would love to meet more people (future, current, past students) and others to do the same. After some feedback, here are the places. Please feel free to stop by even for a second.

Fri, April 12, 2pm. Health Campus coffee shop in Bioresearch building (I'll need to double check, but I've seen it). It's a small coffee shop in the building from the SON towards McDonald's (southwest). You can see it from the outside as there is glass all around.

Sat, April 13, 1pm Lunch at Trident Grill (just east of SON with plenty of parking) at 2033. E. Speedway, Tucson

Sat, April 13, 5pm Arizona Stadium for spring footbalI game. If anyone wants to come, send me a message.

Has anyone bought their books yet? I think im gonna get the FADavis bundle. For the pathophysiology book do we have to get it on elsevier? I was going to buy it on amazon for $88 instead of $111. We obviously have to get the ehr access card so thats $120. The APA manual is about $5 on ebay. All the other books im just gonna rent.Trying to save as much money as I can!
