UA MEPN 2018

Published

Hey everyone! I know the application deadline is a ways off, but I just wanted to get a forum started for those of us who plan on applying to the MEPN program for 2018! I have all my prerequisites finished and just have to take the HESI. I already took the TEAS for some other schools and scored very well, so I'm not too concerned about HESI as I hear it is a much easier exam without any science content required by UA. Has anyone already taken it? What did you think and how did you prepare? My last 60 units GPA is a 3.80 and my prerequisite GPA is a 3.96. I'm a little nervous about the interview as I have heard in the past it is very short- about ten minutes of talking time. I'll have to figure out how to eloquently but succinctly express my preparation for nursing school and interest in the field. Good luck everyone!!

Hi everyone! I was admitted into the Phoenix Cohort. Can't wait to meet you all. I was wondering if anyone looking for roommates? I've started looking for places to live and I'm looking for people to live with!

I would ask people in the current cohort about ideas. Maybe wait until you are accepted into the general MEPN facebook page and post something

If anyone in Tucson needs to take the BLS class I took one with Kristie Johnson last night and it was fantastic. She gave me permission to post her # here in case anyone still needs to take the class. 954-3549 - CPR4Life AZ

Hey guys, has anyone heard back from the graduate college? I sent in my official transcripts a week ago and haven't heard back yet. I talked to the college of nursing and they said they send them over the day they get them so I was wondering if anyone has heard back fairly quickly from the graduate college specifically.

I dropped mine off March 2nd and got an email yesterday from the CON saying they were sent to the graduate college, that was all it said though.

I am a medical marijuana patient here in Arizona, I have a MMJ card for chronic pain due to a car accident I had a few years ago. I had stopped just a couple days ago because I knew that the program does not allow this kind of medication for their students and I wanted to make sure I was clean for the first day of the program, but I just got an email from the program saying that they will be requiring a drug test within the month with a 48-hour notice.

Do I talk to someone in the program and explain my situation or hope that I will have enough time that my system will be clear before the test is requested?

I am not some delinquent smoking pot for fun, it is just the best medicine for me with the least amount of side effects and the best way to stay away from opioids and other addictive and nasty pain meds. If I would have known the program tested (not just the clinics we will be working in like the handbook said) then I would have stopped much earlier but they did not mention anywhere on their website, in their handbook, or in any previous emails that this would be the case.

I'm in a similar situation, i was using it to help me through my cancer treatments. I stopped using it last month and I don't know how long it stays in the system. I'm going to call on Monday to talk to someone and will let you know what I find out. My husband is an attorney and says the law offers a lot of protection to card holders so there is no need to worry just yet. I will tell you what I hear.

Thank you so much I was so worried this would ruin everything. Thank you again you don't know how much stress you just relieved for me.

Sensitive subject. One of the current instructors mentioned how it is ultimately the hospital's decision to turn someone with a card down. It boils down to clinical rotations. If you cannot complete a rotation in a hospital, then you cannot move on to the next level. Best of luck to you!

I sent an email since the person in office couldn't answer my question, I will let you know when I hear back.

I emailed the nursing college the following:

I am currently taking exemestane for breast cancer and up until January I used medical marijuana oil, (I have a medical marijuana card) to help me with the sleeping issues caused by the exemestane. Knowing I couldn't use marijuana if I was accepted into the program I began substituting Advil, Tylenol and melatonin for the marijuana in mid-January. I only used the oil once per evening before bed, and in a very low dose, but I'm concerned about the drug test since 3 months have not passed since my last usage. Can you please advise me?

I got the following response:

Hi Lori,

Thanks for your email. It's not a question I can answer right now, but we are looking into it! As soon as we have more information I will let you know.

Hopefully everything will end up ok, I'm so excited to start this program!!

Thanks LWeeks your a lifesaver! I think I am going to try and set up a meeting with someone on the subject so I can explain my situation.

I am so excited too! We have been working so hard for so long to get into this program and I hope that this medication won't affect our acceptance into the program, especially since we don't plan on using it during the program.

You bet

Fingers crossed that everything works out!
