UA MEPN 2018

Published

Hey everyone! I know the application deadline is a ways off, but I just wanted to get a forum started for those of us who plan on applying to the MEPN program for 2018! I have all my prerequisites finished and just have to take the HESI. I already took the TEAS for some other schools and scored very well, so I'm not too concerned about HESI as I hear it is a much easier exam without any science content required by UA. Has anyone already taken it? What did you think and how did you prepare? My last 60 units GPA is a 3.80 and my prerequisite GPA is a 3.96. I'm a little nervous about the interview as I have heard in the past it is very short- about ten minutes of talking time. I'll have to figure out how to eloquently but succinctly express my preparation for nursing school and interest in the field. Good luck everyone!!

Has anyone received notification from the graduate college?

I was just looking through the email that was sent out today on the drug testing policy and noticed that they test for nicotine. Does anyone know if nicotine use is actually against this program's policy? I know smoking is bad for my health, so I quit but have been using patches does anyone know how this will affect admittance?

DCLewis

I know! I saw that too, I don't smoke but I was actually kind of pissed by this. It's not federally or locally illegal to have a cigarette and while you can't smoke on campus or at clinic sites why can't you have a cigarette or a vape pen for god sakes on your own time. This whole thing is really making me mad and while I absolutely understand the need to make sure your not accepting someone into the program with a natcotics addiction (simply for the risk of patient meds being stolen or something along those lines) why on earth is nicotine an issue?

I would advise notifying the nursing college before taking your drug test that you're on the patches trying to quit just in case there is some weird policy against smokers that will disqualify you from the program.

I'm sorry you have to go through this but congratulations on your journey to kicking the habit I know it's a ton of work and a huge struggle but keep up the good work!

Once you finish the program, can you apply for your np license?

Hey everyone,

I am just wondering if you all have heard anything from the graduate college, or about the drug testing, the webinar recording, CastleBranch, etc.

I know we can't really do anything until the graduate college admits us, so has anyone been admitted yet?

I haven't heard anything more about the webinar (since Friday) and still haven't heard from the graduate college. But if you didn't get the email from the drug test call them asap, they want it done by this Friday. I found my email in the junk folder. Came from a U of A email, ----------------. It will also have the castle branch information.

Mine was also in my junk folder

I'm at lab corps right now waiting on the drug test. I've been here for 45 min and I think there are still 8 people ahead of me, so make sure you set aside plenty of time for the test. Once you submit the form you cannot leave the building or you forfit the payment and are considered non-Compliant, so plan accordingly!

Out of curiosity, what kind of drug test was it (urine, saliva, hair) and did it indicate how many panels it was testing? The email seems to indicate it is a 14 panel drug test with alcohol and nicotine tested, I just have never heard of such a test.

It was a urine test

Thank you so much! If you didn't tell me, I never would have had enough time to do the drug test.

LWeeks and anyone else who is interested!

I just called the number attached to the email sent out with the information about the drug test and I got a hold of the Program Coordinator and asked her about MMJ patients and the drug test. She said to take the test and if it comes back positive then a drug test reviewer will contact you via phone and tell you when and where to send in your prescription (your MMJ card). She said the policy regarding MMJ patients is still being written so we might have to retest later but at least know that we won't be excluded from the program for coming up positive with THC! Huge relief!

Did you make an appointment? I made one for tomorrow, just wondering if I'll still have to wait on top of that. Sorry that you had to wait so long, bummer.

Thank you!!

I feel so much better!!
