U of C Degree holder/Transfer Route Nursing Jan 2016

Published

Hey everyone,

The applications haven't started yet for University of Calgary, degree holder, January 2016 but I wanted to make this so we can all suffer through the application process together!

Post your questions here!

Hello everyone!

I applied to the Winter 2017 program! I took the Athabasca University A/P course and haven't done well in it due to some family health issues that have taken most of my time. It is strange for me as that course comes in way below what i am used to getting. I have a 89.46 major average at the University of Waterloo. Unfortunately due to the uniqueness of my program there, most of those high average courses wont transfer and they will probably end up taking my lowest marks. I am really confused about how they calculate averages though. I know that an 80-84 is a 3.7 but then it drops to 77-79.9 is a 3.3. So how do we know what is in between that? Also i have courses transferring from an exchange in Australia but they wont tell me what they translate to in my GPA. I think that i am actually about to go crazy from the anxiety that i feel not knowing these things! It is 1 am and i am frantically searching for answers when i work at 4 am. Can anyone help me out? Also when i called they told me that the cutoff is 3.07 BUT that the faculty will release a higher one later on. Good luck everyone!

It's been going up each year but I'm hoping it doesn't go up too much this year. It's not so much that they raise or lower it, it's the pool of applicants that dictates the cutoff. So if there are 120 seats and 120 people with a 4.0 apply (which doesn't happen), then all those people would get in and the cutoff would be 4.0. Does that make sense?

I got in for Jan 2017! Is anyone else trying for this year? Anyone who got in last year still around? I'm so excited. I wish classes start tomorrow. *bounces*

Congratulations!! :) I have decided to hold off until next September for family reasons! If you dont mind me asking, what was your GPA? Everywhere that i look, the GPA is insanely high to get in! It is actually higher than it is to go to graduate school for Physiotherapy right now!

I wish you the best of luck :)

Thank you! I had a 3.8 in my program but with the courses the school is looking at I would be at a 4.0.

Hopefully you can get in for September!!

Hey, I was accepted for the program starting in Jan 2017 and I am wondering how you figured out what text books we need? I still haven't got my info package in the mail I figure they are waiting to send them to everyone at once.

Right now the GPA cutoff is 3.6 (even higher than this time last year).

Hi! Did you apply again for this round? Any news?

Any word yet for Jan 2017? Do we know when approximately, more admissions offers will be sent out?

They took forever to receive my transcript... didn't get my green circle until Sept 28th. Any idea how long it takes from here to get acceptance? I applied for the degree holder route and should have a 3.85 GPA according to their calculations.

I would call. They made a mistake in calculating my GPA and had put me on the waiting list. I called to enquire and was offered a spot the next day. Best of luck!

Congrats to those already admitted for Winter 2017 session. I got in too! I hope those waiting get good news. What next please? I am blank. I have accepted the offer. No information on tuition etc and next steps. I wish to fund mine with government loans. Are student loans applied for termly or yearly? Studentaid is yet to answer my calls. Can someone please share info on what to do next?

By the way, how do I know the GPA used by U of C for the admission or the spaces left? My calculation says 3.6 but my friends with higher scores have heard nothing. I guess my calc wasn't right? Don't lose hope guys. Cheers
