Hello All!

:yeah:

I am currently a student @ TWU in Denton, TX. I earned my BBA in Finance from UNT in Denton, but I feel that Nursing is my true calling! I am taking my pre-reqs right now. I am going to take my HESI a2 in summer 2010. I am going to apply for the TWU fast-track weekend program for Spring 2011. I wanted to start a forum to see if anyone else is in the same boat and/or applying to the TWU weekend program 2011. I hope to meet some new people and gain insight into the world of Nursing!

I wish you luck! I have looked at the TWU nursing program, but in Houston. I don't think I'll do a weekend program, though. Are there any other Texas nursing programs that you have looked at? I've looked at UT-Houston SoN, TWU, UTMB-Galveston, and UT at Austin (but I think I might have thrown that one out - I heard not-so-good things about the direct-entry masters programs). I am about to finish my bachelor's in an unrelated field, so we're kind of in the same boat there. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the information. I have looked @ TWU, UTA, TCU and MSU(midwestern state university). I am excited and so ready to get started. For some reason, I would like to get my BSN from TWU.

Let me know how everything turns out!

Hi!!

I am also planning on applying to the Spring 2011 fast track nursing program. I will also be taking my Hesi a2 test this summer. I don't know a whole lot about the program. I was wondering if I can still work while attending the program? Is anyone else in it or planning on getting into the weekend program that plans to work while in it? It doesn't seem too difficult, nothing like what the accelerated program looks like, so I wasn't sure if that would make it to where I could have a part time job. I know in the accelerated you can't have a job, or at least they don't recommend it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Lev_Lady,

I am so excited for you making great grades the Fall 2009...the 1st semester of returning school. :yeah: If TWU Dallas weekend campus have a Spring 2012 session, I will be applying and hoping I am accepted into the program.

Have anyone spoken or email some of the current students in the 2009/2010 program to gauge the level of committment required while holding a fulltime positions? Aggie_girl85 has a great point.

I would love to stay in touch with you because I originally planned/registered for pre-req courses for the Fall 2009 at the Denton campus. But I was given a fulltime position that I could not refuse, so I put taking my pre-reqs off until Fall 2010. I was suppose to be with this group but I definitely want stay in touch with everyone who joins this thread.

What are you taking this semester at the Denton campus?

I'm super bummed that they discontinued the Fast Track program...I was really counting on applying to that particular one.

I guess now I'll be going to traditional route! :)

@StephanieNicole,

UTA has an academic partnership BSN program that is similar to the TWU Weekend BSN program. It's called the UTA AP BSN program...all the courses are online (even pre-reqs are offered online prior to being accepted into the Nursing Program except Gen Chem). The clinicals are done at the partnering hospitals (Parkland, Medical City and Baylor) on the weekends once you are accepted into the program. I would say it's TWU Weekend biggest competitor. I was all geared up for the TWU Weekend BSN program but since I already work at Parkland not in a clinical role, I decided to focus on getting into the UTA AP program. The biggest difference between TWU and UTA AP program is the pre-reqs; UTA require that you take Intro to Nursing, Patho & Pharma prior to being accepted into the Nursing program. They want you to take the pre-nursing courses at UTA only...which again are online as well. I will start on taking my 12 pre-reqs either next month or May. I still plan on taking some of the pre-reqs at DCCCD (including Gen Chem) such as Tech Writing, History, Govenment, & Into to Phys. I will only take the required Micro, A/P I & II, Sociology, Dev Life Span through the UTA AP general courses program. Of course the pre-nursing courses as well, which I should be ready to apply for Summer 2011 or Fall 2011. This is the great thing about the UTA AP program...they offer 3 starts per year (Spring, Sum, Fall) :D for the Nursing program but you can get into the General Courses program every month. :yeah:Its awesome for those of us who will be career changers and cannot take off work to explore the passion of becoming a nurse. :nurse: For more info, please click on the following link: http://stateu.com/uta/nursing.asp

I have also started a thread UTA AP Program with Dallas Hospitals...there is more info in this thread as well.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for this great info. Much appreciated.

No problem...good luck! :)

I thought about doing TWU's weekend program also but when I spoke to the Nursing Admissions coordinator, she told me that the program is only offered in the spring of even numbered years. And those years' admission is based on the amount of instructors that return. Just an FYI

Yes, I am applying to the weekend Nursing Program. I currently have a BS in Political Science/Pre-Law from the University of Arkansas. I was prepared to take the HESI and went online to see that the HESI is no longer accepted. The TEAS test is now the test that TWU will be accepting. I am done with my prereq's and just ready to apply. Good Luck!
