TWU Nursing Applicants - Fall 2019

Published

Just about a year early here, but I wanted to create a thread for Fall 2019 applicants. This is my first time joining a nursing forum; so, let's give it a shot.

If you don’t mind sharing, what were your previous admission scores?

For spring 2019 it was 46 and I think for fall 2018 it was 42..

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading through the group for a while now, so figured I might as well join in! I just submitted my application for the Weekend/Evening Program last night! Excited to endure the waiting process with everyone ?

Here are the stats from Fall 2018. Found this on their thread last week.

Preliminary stats/averages for Fall 2018 are as follows:

Dallas Traditional

Lowest admitted score: 54.4

 Avg. GPA: 3.78

 Avg. TEAS: 93.4%

Houston Traditional

Lowest admitted score: 39.4

Avg. GPA: 3.64

 Avg. TEAS: 85.6

Dallas Weekend/Evening

Lowest admitted score: 48.3

Avg. GPA: 3.77

 Avg. TEAS: 87.6

When you see things like this, take into account that when it says "lowest score admitted _____" and you see a score like that that may be considered low, that is most likely the score of someone who has automatic admission into nursing school. They can do poorly on the TEAS, not have a great GPA and that is why their score is lower like that and is why it is the lowest score admitted. if that makes sense ? .

Also, it sometimes appears that Houston has a higher acceptance rate than Dallas. That's usually because most of the people who have the automatic admission, and then those with the TWU "boost" are from the DFW area and choose to go to Dallas, thus taking up more of the seats in Dallas. There are some people with auto-admin and the TWU boost who go to Houston, but it's less than the number who go to Dallas, leaving more seats open, and making it seem like it's "easier" to get into Houston. (If that makes sense too ? ).

Just curious to know how someone could get automatic admission into the program with lower GPA and TEAS score bc it’s known that to get into TWU you have to score decently on TEAS and have a higher GPA.

Hi guys!

I'm applying to TWU Dallas and here are my stats:

Nursing Core GPA: 3.84

TEAS Composite 84.0

Reading: 85.1

Math 96.9

Science 74.5

English 79.2

Previous Bachelors

Admission Score: 51.37

I know that the lowest admitted score was 54.4, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Students come into TWU with automatic admission. If you apply and make it into the Honors Scholar program and you’re a nursing major, you receive admission into Nursing school automatically. Like you come into TWU as a freshman already technically having a spot “reserved” for you, but you still have to maintain a certain GPA (to remain in the honors program), and then still make at least a 64% on all TEAS sections, and then apply like everyone else. Also, there are other different situations where a student can earn early/automatic admission into nursing school, I just cant remember them right now :)

But for example, a student with the automatic admission could think “hey, I don’t need to do as well on the TEAS because i’m Already accepted.” So they do low on the TEAS, making their “score” lower, but it technically doesn’t matter because they have their admission still.

But I wouldn’t let this worry you! As long as you feel great about your stats, that’s all that matters! :-)

Huston also has more spots available in the program than Dallas does!

Hi so I applied the spring semester but wasn't accepted. Do I resend my teas and transcripts?

I’d guess you are fine on the transcripts unless you retook a class. Not sure on the TEAS score. I’d email them and see. They normally respond to my emails within hours.

I had my advising appt this past Friday and the appt went good, TWU has everything they need from me and everything in NursingCas is correct and verified HOWEVER the only thing that “worries” me is how the admission score seems to jump a few points each year from the last 3 years for the evening and weekend program ....I’m just going to remain optimistic this time around...and for the person who asked my admission score is 51.17...I think this cycle is the MOST I’ve seen people respond they’re applying to the evening/weekend program so GOOD LUCK to all of us!

Hey Everyone!

I took my Teas yesterday and it did not go well as I wanted it to go. I have been sick, and was sick the morning I took it. I was also sleep deprived because my toddler has been up for the past two nights with a flu.! Does anyone know if I retake it on Friday Feb 1st at TWU if i would still be eligible to apply?

Glad it went well. Did they say anything about the timeline?
