TWU Dallas Spring 2011

U.S.A. Texas

Hey guys! I recently got my acceptance letter for TWU Nursing school in Dallas! :) I decided to make an account to see if who else has been admitted to the Dallas campus. im soooo nervous!

wait the problem i was having with the immunization has been covered??? so they do allow u to do clinicals with only 2 of the 3 from the hep b series????!!!

no problem, hope it helped some. I know I wanted to know everything to prepare!

Holy cow Bharvey! That was awesome. It answered all my questions I think!! I just got accepted for Fall Dallas as well. I really really appreciate the time you took to write all that up.

Yes, you only have to have 2 completed before the first clinical. Other than the hospital orientation though, clinicals don't start until several weeks in; so if you get started now you'll likely have all 3 done by then and not have to worry about it anyway!

Thank you very much for the information. It helps to hear from someone who is going through it & it also helps me to know you are a Mom! That makes me most nervous, as I have three kiddos:-)

It's rough because you can't always plan ahead, but doable. If you have a good support system, or at least someone for hire you can call last minute when things change- you'll be ok. :)

The only question I have now is do they prepare you (practice/provide samples) of the write ups that you have to do when you start your clinicals at a hospital? Hopefully that is a part of what they teach you in the class.

Yes, and no. You will have a basic knowledge from the various classes to apply to your care plan, and they provide a reference sheet that gives you books to use for help in certain areas of the write-up, and about 4 weeks prior to your first "real" clinical they go through an example in class that you won't remember by the time clinical comes... so are you really prepared to do the first one? Not at all, lol.

But it's ok. Care plans are not graded - they are used for you to practice and get familiar with the nursing process and for your instructor to evaluate your weak areas. You'll receive tons of feedback on them and they'll expect improvement with each one. The first one is hard because you really just don't know what they're looking for. The following ones are hard because you do know what they're looking for and have higher expectations. It does get easier though. The post clinical write up now only takes me about half the time the first one did; and pre-clinical part still varies based on how many patient meds you have to write up.

I am wondering if there is a way to begin studying for patho, if I can get in this summer. I know, it may sound strange, but I have been out of school for a long time & I feel like I need extra time to take it all in & get back in the swing of things:-) Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks! Kelly

congrats Zeek1, I am very nervous about tgr teas exam that I will be taking at the end of this semester. I am applying for the spring 2012 semester at twu. Is there anyone else who is applying for spring 2012? Any helpful tips about the teas exam ?

Txaggie, I am applying for the spring 2012 semester too. I'm really nervous about the teas exam...what's your gpa?

the teas v is not that bad. i didnt do all that great but if you know basic info you will do fine... study science and english basic skills.

Hey Bharvey2! Thanks for all the info it eases me a little bit lol but still a few questions. Ok so we do NOT get to pick our class times or instructors? Also, I plan on taking patho this summer through Dallas where I will get to pick my proff if more than one is teaching it do you recommend anyone? And you said we get supplies at orientation and can buy a book package do you recommend just getting all of our stuff at orientation or not? Thank you so much for all your help(:

Bobbi, thanks for all the really helpful info. I know you are probably pretty busy with school (and life) so thanks for taking the time to answer questions. Are you taking any classes this summer to get them out of the way?

You don't get to pick your instructor or class time/day for any class/lab/clinical except for your 1 elective. Everything is assigned to you by section and you get who you get. There is only one instructor at Dallas who teaches Patho anyway. :)

I didn't buy anything at orientation, but I was broke at the time. Your basic supplies are "free" since they are part of your tuition. They'll give those to you which, other than the practice wound for concepts, are yours to keep. Other things will be offered like shirts, scrubs, backpacks, etc. You're encouraged to buy them, but there's no reason you HAVE to have the ones from TWU.

Our orientation for spring was last December, so it was only a month before school started. We were in a scramble to get things done. Hopefully at this orientation they'll have the book package together and classes assigned already so you'll have all summer to plan and prepare.
