Layoffs:
Two hospital system in my area is laying off people due to low censes. Our area is not the covid 19 hot spot. One is laying off 1000 of their 6000 employees. The other large system is asking employees to take personal time off. Has lay off occur in your health system?
Freedom: just a rant
So we can't reinforce the social distancing rule or locking down your state because people have freedom in this country, but you can seize medical equipments and call for drafting of healthcare professionals to work in your state! What a joke!

I am in NJ and am in a temporary layoff from a community psych role, even though I am essential. Administration decided to pare way down on our home visits due to lack of PPE, so I had a choice of converting from salary to an hourly wage and work a few unguaranteed hours per week or take unemployment.

I had a really, really satisfying dream last night that nurses everywhere collectively went on strike to drive the point home. For one beautiful moment, the public actually supported us and turned against governments and bean counter executives... and we actually got the support/staffing/supplies we need to do our jobs effectively. Then I woke up and just felt like punching everyone ???
I'm sorry for anyone who has lost their job or been furloughed by their employer. We're "essential" only when it's convenient. So, if you're ever able to refuse unsafe work, don't hesitate!
