Tweety glad the insurance increase will be less expensive

NJ22 have not heard of pecan tassies

Ado that's nice that your book club has all those events

Stars hope the fireplace gets fixed before the weather turns cold

Work started off slow yesterday but got 2 new cases by noon.  Was proud of myself for controlling my anger and irritation at this and staying calm.  Was able to get both new ones completed by the end of the day

Rest of the day went pretty well, stopped at the library before going to the doctor's appointment.  He was impressed with the weight loss.  Hope to lose more by my appointment in Jan

Today should be pretty ordinary, will do the shopping after work and exercise

Going to be unusually warm today, in the low 80s

Good morning!

Joe, glad that you're able to keep things in perspective and stay calm.

I've been working at that at work for a while.  I was so tired of working angry and stressed all the time when it was my choice to be there.  I can only do so much and being angry at staffing and workload is not helpful.

Stars, I think my productivity is definitely related to my mood.  When I'm depressed, I don't get much done.  Lately I've been productive, so I must be okay.  Or maybe I'm just staying busy because I'm stressed.

Dog did good with his opthamology checked up and the doc who is quitting said he approved a year's worth of drops and hopefully they will find a replacement by then.  But apparently that's not easy.  They have a candidate that's still in residency somewhere they may hire by the Summer.  In the meantime they offered up some other docs but there aren't many in the area.  His best recommendation is in another town just south of here.  I'll try and hold out.  As long as I don't have problems and have the drops, I should be okays.  Last time I sent the drops to the grocery store pharmacy that accepts pet scripts.

Otherwise today should be a routine day.  I'll mop the floors, cook and hopefully make it to yoga.  I slept in to a whopping 9:30 after feeding the dogs at  6AM.  Got to love that benzo.

I have to admit the financial uncertainty of my damaged roof and having a roommate that's going through a lot (his insurance company low balled him terribly on fixing his condo..and now he has to fight them) and has caused some stress and anxiety I'm dealing with.  But I'm by no means over the top.  Thanks for listening.

Have a great day.

I hope that today I can "keep things in perspective and stay calm". I say that because I will have to take Nannie out in the car, and then have her sit on a sofa in the hairdresser's domain while I have my hair shaped up. That appt is for 3:30 PM and might take an hour (?maybe?). Then on the way home I will get some take-out something-or-other for supper.

I just got Nannie dressed and breakfasted, and she is already inspecting her outfit and showing me how it goes together. [Yah, I KNOW! I JUST put it all on her!]  She's not thrilled at the way the pant legs are kind of 'big', but I tell her that is the fashion these days, and she wouldn't be comfortable with wearing 'skinny' legged pants. (Imagine a short, bottom-heavy 95 y.o. woman with skin- tight pants. ICK!)

SiL and BiL are supposed to be coming over to finish the thingy over the patio. I'm not sure when they'll be here, though. In my 'fantasy', SiL would say, 'Oh, go ahead and go to your appt; I'll watch Nannie.' But if they are coming over in one vehicle, that won't be happening. And how do you tell your SiL/hairdresser you are going to a different hairdresser? I guess I can say the truth: This will be my last appt w/ her as she is moving out of town in a few weeks. (Bummer!) and I would like her to do some slight 'stacking' of the back of my hair. Nothing extreme, though, just a way to make it fall together well with little fuss. But I won't say to her that she made my hairdo so CHOPPY last time, and this other hairdresser 'knows' my hair, so I want it done RIGHT before she leaves town!

Tomorrow SiL is supposed to come give Nannie a shower, and take her over to her house, and/or to get her nails repainted and go shopping. I don't care, just so long as I can have those few hours to myself. Maybe I'll get the impetus to put away those clothes that have been staring at me for more than a week! I guess you could say I'm depressed; I know it is these circumstances that are bugging me and I NEED a change! If they could take her for a week, they would REALLY understand how this live-in caregiving really weighs on a person. Especially since Nannie's mind is flakier now. She doesn't have much of a 'personality' any more, either, so conversation is a trial. I can stand it for an 8 or 12 hour shift, but being able to 'get off duty' is, as we all know, a necessity for mental stability!

Well, since I have devolved into the ever-present griping and crabby stage, I guess I'll sign off for now. If anything extraordinary occurs I'll let ya know laydah.

Cheers!

Hello all!

Joe, my friend used to make tassies, they're like little bite-sized pecan pies (as I recall).  Delicious!  Agree, kudos to you for staying calm in the midst of the chaos.

Tweety, good you got to sleep in!  Too bad your canine opthalmologist is leaving.  I'm sure there are not hoards of them available.  I hope you find one that is reasonable.  How was bowling?  Sounds like a good day planned, I hope you get to yoga in time.

Yesterday we got three of the five litter boxes changed to NEW, stainless steel ones.  Hopefully they will not absorb odor.  So far it is working well, the cats have accepted them (I had no doubts, really).  Yesterday I dropped off some pumpkin chili for ds to try, and we got to have a nice chat.  He was watching the Tremors movies (had the first one on), and we got to talking about movies in general.  Then his eyes lit up and he exclaimed, "OH!  I watched Pride and Prejudice, the one with Kiera Knightley!  It was SO GOOD!  I can't believe I haven't watched it before!"  We both laughed, and had a great discussion and comparison of all the PnP movies made -- Jane Austen is one of my fave authors, and I enjoy watching ppl's interpretations of her works.  Some, of course, are better than others.  LOL, ds said "I can't believe my macho manliness kept me from watching it for this long!!"

I made some goulash last night.  Today I need to pick up a few groceries I forgot yesterday (when, per usual, I forgot my list at home and had to wing it).  Surprisingly, we got some rain last night!  I don't anticipate more though.  I haven't heard from my friends, dunno if we are walking today.

Have a good day!

Nope.  My German mother didn't and recipes I've used since didn't.  Just onions.  Sometimes green pepper.  Do you or your Ukranian relatives use celery?

I supposed it's like "do you put pickles in potato salad"?  Some will take offense and others like me will say of course.  LOL

Yes, tassies are like little pecan pies. They weren't bad, but more work than I'd choose to put into cookies for giving away. I like drop cookies or bars, that don't take a lot of time to form. dh found a recipe for blondies that use butterscotch pudding. And cookies that use saffron. Thats a little rich for my budget.

Intermittently rainy day. I met ds at his gym to check it out to possibly join. It's not terrible, and wasn't too busy, so I'll likely join.

Yesterday I did some mending, laundry, took the dogs for a walk, as well as baking cookies.

What I grew thinking was goulash was just salad mac, tomato sauce and ground beef. And maybe some onions, green pepper and celery. My mother had myriad ways of cooking ground beef, because it was cheap.

I think the only Tremors movie all the way through was the first one, but it was pretty funny. And I like Jane Austen, too. And any British period movie.

Joe, I admire your emotion regulation. I am working on that.

I grew up with cucumbers in potato salad, MiL uses pickles. Now I use both, LOL. And a little bit of pickle juice.

My sister had a cat that saw a veterinary ophthalmologist (San Antonio). Ended up being enucleated but adapted quite well.

Pecan tassies would be one of the recipes my mother used to make at Christmas time (we just call them pecan tarts). Her recipe uses cream cheese, butter and flour for the crust and they are rich, but so good. Agree it is a lot of work for giving in large quantities. I'll make some to send to stepson this year if we don't end up bringing him here to visit for Christmas.

Do you put celery in goulash?

Yes. And carrots and onions. My wife says that goulash is one of those dishes that can accommodate vegetables.

The recipe called for zucchini and yellow squash, onion, garlic, sausage, ground sirloin (I used vegetarian versions of these), S & P, and canned diced tomatoes.
