Really ? What a shame !
It's so unfortunate that we have to live like prisoners but what if the TSA let this woman through and she was concealing a bomb? Highly unlikely but what if it happened?
in Ireland, during the Troubles, going to any public space or event meant going through security. When word got out that babies in strollers weren't being searched, terrorists started hiding bombs in strollers.
The reason they recently changed their procedures is because of those stupid body scanners. There is a reason they make the pat-downs so uncomfortable, they want people to go through the scanners instead. Why do they want them to go through the scanners? Because those scanners were millions of $$ billed to the taxpayers, and made a company somewhere a hefty profit. The pat downs you used to go through were okay at best, and now it is just ridiculous.
I was "Backscattered" once, in Cleveland. It wasn't bad. Some people can't be scanned. My father flies about once a month for work. Since he got a pacemaker 5 years ago, he has to be patted down every time.

When I went to the airport before they changed their procedures you got a pat down that tried to be decent, now it has mutated in to one I feel is unnecessary. One example is the breast/bra inspection. When I went through the policy was to use the back of the hand and minimize touching. Now it looks more like they are trying to palpate what cup size you are. I know that is an exaggeration, but that's what it feels like. I'm not a man, but it seems the groin check is pretty intimate
Also, the body scanners are not able to even check a body cavity. If someone can make it through a metal detector with a bomb, then they most certainly can sneak it up their you-know-what even with the hyped up security measures. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that security is generally a good thing, but it has to stay within the bounds of reason.
If we're going to be "secure" then they should start doing strip searches with full body cavity checks. Nothing less works!! And it should be on everyone. If we don't check 6 year old rectums, then the terrorists will put bombs up 6 year old rectums.
How far are we willing to go before we say enough is enough?
The terrorists HAVE won. We're so terrified that we're giving away our freedoms one by one. Personally, I'd rather a terrorist manage to get on a plane than continue this sham in the name of "security."
Sorry, folks, I think a lot of airport security measures are just window dressing to make you feel safe, that the government is protecting you. Granted, terrorists are devious and unscrupulous - they will use women, kids, babies, grannies and the disabled to carry bombs, hidden in shoes, underwear, body cavities or containers of more than 100ml....
But why is this stringent security only at airports? Why not railway stations? Subways? Bus stations? Road bridges and tunnels?
And why stop at transport? There are other targets which are "legitimate" for terrorists. Schools. Sports venues. Office buildings. Hospitals. Apartment blocks. Hotels. Anywhere that a large concentration of people would usually feel safe.
During 50 years of Cold War against an enemy with immense resources of all kinds, there was no need for the security measures provoked Al Qaida.

Case and point, this just showed up on yahoo news: http://news.yahoo.com/us-warning-airline-plot-implant-bombs-people-162151314.html
Expect even more security measures. /sigh
The terrorists have already won. With the passing of the Patriot Act and the ever more invasive security measures where EVERYONE is treated as guilty until proven innocent, America is living in fear and willingly giving up liberties without them having to actually DO anything- just hint at it. And here is the other thing I don't get- the TSA is the TRANSPORTATION Security Agency, yet the focus is solely on air travel. Buses/subways/trains and other modes of transportation have been attacked elsewhere- why aren't the same screenings used there too? And a terrorist wouldn't even need to get through security to cause lots of death/injury because the backlog of people at the security checkpoints are basically sitting ducks. Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox now.

I always wondered about that as well. You can walk in to any terminal check-in and everyone that will be on the plane is waiting to check baggage. They are only concerned about stuff that has happened before. I guarantee the first time anyone does anything on a train the same security measures will be put in place.

I read about this on the news
Disgusting. The media has done a great job of keeping this country in a constant state of fear. Slowly but surely all our rights are being taken away. TSA is pretty useless anyways. They didn't even check my boyfriend's ID when he went through security at JFK and my sister was able to get on a plane with a bottle of pepper spray by accident at LAX. I say we go back to the way things used to be.
