Would you be insulted if.....
Not insulted at all. Hospitals are a public health hazard. They are deadly! 100,000 people die (and a lot more become ill, sometimes long-term) every year from infections they pick up in US hospitals. A similar proportion anywhere in the industrialised (IOW, civilised, modern) world. This seems to be acceptable, like an inevitable fact of life. If the same number of people died from bugs they picked up at university, or from hotels, or supermarkets or wherever - we would insist that these places be closed down and cleaned up. But not hospitals..... Basic hand hygiene makes a big difference.

Hello from Scotland
Hi Carol Here's a link to NHS Sotland's recruitment page. http://www.jobs.scot.nhs.uk/list.aspx Currently only 74 vacancies for nurses of all specialties and levels throughout Scotland. Not very encouraging, I'm sorry to say. I know people who qualified 2 years ago who still don't have jobs as registered nurses. Even in the private sector it's hard to find a job as a qualifed nurse. Anyway.....why on Earth would you want to exchange Australia for Prestwick???? It rains here every day...... How about if we do a jobswap? Best wishes Mick

Sometimes, a single poster fits all those descriptions.

It could be coming another round of medicaid/medicare cuts
And this guy wasn't even a socialist!

Job is worse, aarrrrgg
Your concerns are laudable, and an example of what a good nurse should feel and think in such a situation. Your patients, their families and your colleagues are lucky to have you. But...... Heroes usually become casualties, and none of your patients or potential patients will come to your rescue. Look for a new job - your bosses are probably already aware of the situation....and remember that you'll need a reference from your current employers. Best wishes and good luck

Speeding tickets and employment
That is absurd. Leave Texas.

TSA asks a 95 y/o women to remove brief
Sorry, folks, I think a lot of airport security measures are just window dressing to make you feel safe, that the government is protecting you. Granted, terrorists are devious and unscrupulous - they will use women, kids, babies, grannies and the disabled to carry bombs, hidden in shoes, underwear, body cavities or containers of more than 100ml.... But why is this stringent security only at airports? Why not railway stations? Subways? Bus stations? Road bridges and tunnels? And why stop at transport? There are other targets which are "legitimate" for terrorists. Schools. Sports venues. Office buildings. Hospitals. Apartment blocks. Hotels. Anywhere that a large concentration of people would usually feel safe. During 50 years of Cold War against an enemy with immense resources of all kinds, there was no need for the security measures provoked Al Qaida.

Electroconvulsive Therapy
Jenin One of the most difficult things about depression is that people judge you for it, as if it is some sort of personal failure. There is an unjustified stigma attached to it, and to its treatment. You're doing the right things

Electroconvulsive Therapy
StartingOver These things are very helpful measures against mild to moderate depression and chronic dysthymia, but when someone has a severe depression they are either not possible or counterproductive. Staying busy is not an option for someone experiencing psycho-motor retardation. The company of others is painful for someone who feels drenched in shame and unworthy of any attention. A person who believes he is already dead and heading for Hell will not be reassured by prayer. As you say, maybe when you become a nurse you'll have a different view.
