You need to start with calling your state board of nursing for advice on how to renew your license. Did you ever work as an LPN? Why would you want to throw all your education away & be a CNA? for a lot less pay?

Agreed. Contact your state's BON for the required steps. Renewing CNA skills will do nothing toward renewing your LPN license.

Def speak with your BON. I was in a similar situation as you and was going to do the same thing ....get my CNA in fact I took a skills course and even took he exam and passed but at that time through AllNurses.com found a refresher course that I could take! I live in Fl but my license originated in New York ....so I went thru your adventure and hurry back to nursing we really need you!the steps to reactivate my lic in NY and then began the refresher course it was an online course but there also was 100 clinical hours....passed yeah then applied for endorsement to Florida all went well there then i found another refresher course for hands on procedures ie: cath, trach care etc. I also got IV Certified and of course my BLS . So to finish my story I am now aLPN in the states of NY and Florida and am gainfully employed and loving every minute of it! Good luck with

Also you might want to post on the LPN/LVN site

They are all correct start with your state BON..you didn't say what state you are in. Most states do have LPN refresher courses. You have to make sure they are approved by your BON. I know NAPNES just started one with the theory online and then you find a local facility to do your clinical at. SD has a good online option too. CO has a great refresher. The state of OH will let you take everything online. So there are pleny of refresher programs out there. But start with your state BON.

After extended time away from being an active nurse, it can be overwhelming to go back and refresh your education. I have just done it here. I contacted the BON, found out the steps required and followed them to the letter utilizing all the resources available. The BON, the state League for Nursing , the college that I took my online courses at, and the gracious LTC facility that allowed me to take me clinicals were wonderfully supportive. I also let my family and close friends know what I was attempting to do.

I now have to take the NCLEX again as the last step before being licensed here and going out to look for work so that I can go back to school to further my education yet again. :D

:heartbeatIf I can do it at my ripe old age, you surely can.:heartbeat My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
