Hi I am 43 and have taken the NCLEX 2 times and failed both times. I did the Kaplan review and thought it helped but I guess it didnt. I do not know where to go from here, I feel so stupid:cry:
Thanks again, I tried to watch the video for the site but it didnt work. I have so many NCLEX books in front of me and I dont know where to start.
Hi. I passed NCLEX from the first attempt, finishing on 75th question. I would like to share with you my plan of preparation for this test.
My first book was Saunders, Review for NCLEX, 2007. I didn't read all the book, I didn't have time, but the chapters with labs values, electrolytes, and fluids, diets, positions, and, of course, tubes.
Then Kaplan book with videos -- read the book three times and watch the video. In my opinion, the video was very helpful in the preparation for the test. When I did Kaplan's questions, my mistakes made more sense to me because, in video, specific points were emphasized and I simply missed them therefore I went back, found the place in the book and reread this place again.
I used Saunders Q&A review book with additional 5000 questions (book and CD). Great review book! I didn't have time to go over all 5000, of course, but I finished all book, 2000 questions.
The most important
1. review the questions were you made mistakes the next day or, even better, a few days later -- to reinforce the memorization of a new info.
2. when you use Q&A book, make it look like you are doing a real test --Time yourself and score yourself. Record your score in your journal. With time you will notice your progress and it will boost your confidence. Confidence is very important for taking NCLEX.
I used Saunders Q&A book after I took Kaplan's 2000 questions; therefore my score was about 80.
More about Saunders Q&A review book:
I think that some of the questions were very similar to Kaplan's questions. The topics that were missing: questions about immunization and priority questions.
I tried many other books from my library, but still think that Saunders two books that I said and Kaplan book, video and questions on-line are the best resource for one to get ready for NCLEX.
My advice is do about 6000 questions, time yourself and keep your score.
I wish you good luck!
Mothergoose, try not to despair. I know how horrible it is to fail the NCLEX first hand. I am 53 years old and graduated in May of this year and failed in July. I am scheduled to retake my exam next week and am nothing short of terrified! I also did Kaplan the first time around and I did use it again this second time around plus Saunders 4th ed. I did Suzannes first tip, but I didn't have the time to do the rest of her plan.
I felt exactly like you, stupid embarassed and humiliated...I think that is normal BUT just hang in there and try again. I am hoping that next week I will pass and I can return to my job. I wouldn't even know where to start studying again if I don't pass.
Good luck to you!! You can do it!
guys..pls help me..I am a nurse in the philippines and I want to take nclex examination..but I don't know where to start.. anyone there who can help me ..where can I download the application form and the finger print card?...thanks..
You are not applying for NCLEX but licensure to be a RN in the US of which NCLEX is a part of that process. Suggest you check out the International forum under the region tab above as there are a few threads which will help you mainly the one on Primer to working in the US. Also be aware of retrogression and that we do not recommend California for initial licensure
Sprklplnty I will say a prayer for you. I wish you all the luck in the world to pass the NCLEX this time. Please let me know how you did. Good luck. I am going to try Suzannes plan. I have e mailed her but I am not sure if I did it correctly to get the 2nd part.
You don't email Suzanne but send a pm and only if you have completed first tip and format the pm as requested in her sticky.
