Truman or malcolm X

Published

I'm desperate to figure this out. Is there any Truman or Malcolm X students that can tell me how they select students for the nursing program? Is it really true that Truman pick their students solely base on the lottery system? How is the program at Malcolm X? Any info would be helpful...Thanks!!! :bowingpur

Congrats to all of you that got in! After attending a recent orienation, I realized I do not have enough of the pre-reqs (I have a bachelors in communications, but no sciences that aren't over 5 years old) at this point to get into Fall 2010, so I will try for 2011. For those that got in - what grades did you have in the pre-reqs (bio, chem, math?) also, did you have other classes that might have given you an edge on the application (micro, AP I and II, pharmocology, etc). Just curious. I recently tried taking Chem 201 and wished I would have taken Chem 101 instead. I am dropping Chem 201 (Fearing a bad grade) and atteming Chem 101 in the spring. Did any of you take science classes, like microbiology online? I'd love to hear about it - thanks!

It took me 2 years (including summers) to completed all these Pre-reqs while working Full-Time. It's all worth it at the end because I can concentrated on one class at a time without be overwhelmed. Here is my pre-req grades. Try to get Professor Abrams for Chemistry 101 at Truman. He is THE BEST! Hope this help....

Chem 101 = A

Math 125 = A

Bio 121 = A

Bio 227 = B

Micro 233 = A

Bio 226 (Taken at Oakton) = C

CNA (Taken at Wright) = A

Eng 101 (Wright) = B

With the Fall 2010 start date there is no longer a lottery. On Truman's website there is a checklist that you can download. On here it shows that each grade is assigned a point value, for example an A = 16 points, B = 14, etc. Then whoever has the highest points is accepted.

This really puts the pressue on applicants to take as many prerequisite classes as possible, because it is rewarded with more points.

I went to a nursing informational meeting (where you get extra points if you go to one.) The director of the program said that for the Fall 2009 semester the lowest number of points accepted was around 55. If you take the bare minimum classes (bio, chem, math) and get all As you would only have like 30 something. So the director said that all applicants had already taken Bio 226 and most had taken Bio 227 prior to applying to the program. If you get an A in all general education classes the highest score you can get is 112.

Good luck!!
