Can anyone PLEASE RECOMMEND or NOT RECOMMEND the nurse practitioner schools Listed?
whether this is FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE or personal reports someone you know, can you PLEASE advise on whether you would recommend either of these institutions for the Nurse Practitioner TRACK?
1- Troy University (DNP- FNP track) (I believe this is based in Montgomery? They informed me that I could ONLY complete their DNP because of prior MSN completion) starts THIS SUMMER
2- BRADLEY University (Post-MSN FNP certificate)
3- SAMFORD University (MSN-FNP track)
4- University of Alabama at Birmingham (MSN- FNP track)
Does Vanderbilt (MSN-FNP) appreciate TRANSFER students? Anyone know the required GPA for acceptance?
(THANKS YOU so much in ADVANCE ??????)

This may not be helpful now, but I just graduated from the FNP program (MSN) at Troy University. I found it to be challenging and I learned a lot! I passed boards without any difficulty. I never had any problem getting in touch with professors online/email/phone and always got the help I needed. The entire program is based out of the Montgomery campus.

Hhnurse - how did the classes work? Were there group work, are there deadlines you have to meet, are there live classes, & how are clinicals done?
There are some required in-person classes in Montgomery. Skills check-offs, once a semester meetings are about it. We did have to go and take the HESI in the middle of the last semester too. There is group work in most every class. I think that is standard for an MSN. It is randomly assigned. The in person meetings were very helpful for networking and meeting the people you end up working with on projects and papers for the next few years not to mention working with in the future. The classes are mostly online with powerpoint, recorded lectures, reading assignments, and proctored tests. Papers with each class, and usually at least one project. (After listing all this stuff, I did more than I thought!). You find your own preceptor in your area, must be approved by school - clinical hours must be completed between certain dates and must be approved dates before starting. You must spread out the dates the entire semester and cannot complete in two-three weeks. There will be a professor that visits on site each semester to evaluate you during clinicals. It is scheduled, so you do know when they are coming. Any other questions?
