Trouble with license by endorsement

Published

I am an LPN. I hold a GA license but last year I moved to Idaho and applied for an Idaho LPN license by endorsement. I started this process in February. Georgia mailed my stuff to the wrong address (repeatedly for 2 months - why look at mailing address, right?) My fingerprints got rejected as unreadable twice, FBI lost my background check, Idaho board of nursing refused to communicate with them to look into it..etc...so yesterday after 8 months I got my license...i got promoted! THEY ISSUED ME AN RN license!! I thought that maybe there was another person with my name and it was all just a misunderstanding but today I received the actual printed RN license (with an LPN flyer about scope of practice) in the mail.

nursys also shows me as an RN. I called Idaho Board of Nursing but the licensed clerk is on sick leave. I don't know what to do. I can't legally practice on RN license but by issuing that license my temporary LPN license got cancelled. What to do now? This level of incompetence is mind boggling. I'm considering writing a formal complaint but that will not solve my situation today.

Any ideas how to proceed?

hi kkaycam,

Yes, The Georgia board of examiners kept mailing it to my street address - completely ignoring my mailing address that was on file (the post office does not deliver in our town). I recommend you update your address on their website...however, the verification goes directly to the new board of nursing or appropriate agency. They do not mail it to you. Idaho required NCLEX scores with GA ignored on the form and I had to have them re-send it. Find out what exactly is required in IL and make sure everything is included in the envelope. I paid $25 for the verification.

So an update...I emailed the executive director of the Idaho BoN. A week later I received a reply from her assistant with an apology and assurance that they would look into the process. The RN license was removed from the Idaho Board of Nursing but it still shows as active in NURSYS. I sent an email back to the BoN a few days ago and nothing. Today I contacted NCSBN by phone but they just told me to contact Idaho BoN...It's like running in a circle. In the end I also sent a long email to NCSBN and now I'm waiting if I'm going to get a response.

I decided to move out of state - in big part for this reason. I don't think I want to work under an incompetent BoN...plus unless they remove the license from NURSYS i could have trouble obtaining employment (nobody would hire me with a temp license I had before)...I'm not daring to apply for an Oregon license just yet (which i need to do ahead of the move)..I'm too afraid the error will complicate the issuance of the OR license...so I'm waiting until they fix the error...8 months of waiting, email, phone calls...and yeah..i'm giving up on Idaho.

Regarding Nursys smaller states upload data twice monthly so it can take a few weeks to update. Other states update Nursys once or twice a week

Sorry to hear that you are giving up on Idaho because of eight months of dealing with incompetence. Good luck when you get to Oregon.

The RN license was online the same day they issued it...October 14,,,they issued a correct LPN license on October 17 - it was in nursys that evening.......it's October 31st now and both licenses show in nursys.
