From nurse to patient
I was very critical of one of my hospital stays...but really just one. In a hospital where there was 1:2 ratio and the nurses were constantly on their phones and chatting, my medication was handed to me with bare hands, my requests to speak to a doctor (who was an OB on duty in a tiny hospital in the mountains and I was a post spinal fusion patient - with my surgeon 300 miles from there) went unaswered, doctor was clueless. PCA was provided but my multiple requests for stool softeners that were prescribed went unaswered and I ended up with an impaction, complaints about an IV that was extremely painful were ignored for two days until I removed it myself - complains about pain in IV site and after were also ignored...I ended up with a 60cm blood clot going from my hand past my shoulder...and so on and on and on...So yep, that time I was critical but couldn't be too crazy open about it because they were the only healthcare jobs provider in the area and I wanted a job with them. I do regret not taking the steps and filing a formal complaint now. THat level of care is simply dangerous. Not just nurses, even the PT (forced me out of bed when i wasn't up to it - I was getting panic attacks every time i would see him around town for a year and half - until I actually decided to confront him about it). This was my only bad experience out of numerous hospitalizations at various hospitals in the past 4 years. I also never fail to thank the great nurses before being discharged...except that one time...I simply couldn't do that. So to sum it up...we don't want to be pain in the ass...but if you see something wrong speak up. It means other patients are getting bad care as well.

Saying goodbye to nursing
My situation is this: I graduated from an LPN program in 2012, started my first nursing job and a bridge program, and 3 weeks later my back literally gave out. I haven't worked in nursing since then. I had a spinal fusion, shoulder surgery, foot surgery, and need two more. How does one say goodbye to their dream of being a nurse just because your body betrayed you? I breezed through school, it was easy for me, I finally found my calling...and now I don't feel like I will ever be able to practice again (which i won't unless I get my practice hour in to keep my license). Where does one go from here? Has anyone found a nursing job that wasn't physical and no previous experience was needed? I tried for medical office positions but had no luck due to lack of experience. Is it time to give up? I have a business degree that I could put in use I guess but my heart is not in it at all. I know it's a bit of a rant, but I have a decision to make....Stay in my current state and keep hoping that it will work out or move to the other coast, so my husband's career can grow...and I can use all the help in the world.

Practical Nursing Program Lanier Tech 2013?
Well, you have to define what you mean by low. I know when I was in they were looking first at the entrance exam...so my guess is if you do exceptionally well (as in better than everyone else) on that you might..just might be able to get in. You can always talk to one of the instructors and ask questions...either way...if your heart is set on it go for it!

Looking for a job after 3 years off.
I actually liked working there although my two week training was cut short and I was all by myself with 40 residents started day 3....(6 feeding tubes too). One of those jobs where you don't eat or pee....I still enjoyed it - but to be honest I've enjoyed every single job I've ever had. WHile I was not lifting patients (except once after a fall), the medcart itself was so heavy that it just finished off my already bad back and I ended up temporarily in a wheelchair....that's why I'm hesitating to look for a job in the same setting. I was enrolled in an RN program, but had to withdraw because of medical issues. I'm currently working on a healthcare management degree but to be honest nursing is my passion and it comes to me easy... (yes, i was the smart as* in the class getting straight As without studying much). Once I graduate from my current school I will be deciding between MBA in healthcare management and an LPN to BSN program....it all depends on my health. But don't give up on nursing homes. While some can be bad you can always strive to make it better. I loved the continuity of care, seeing the same faces, knowing my residents and for that reason noticing when something was not right.

Looking for a job after 3 years off.
I got my LPN diploma in 2012 and started my first job at a nursing home shortly after. Unfortunately, my back issues got really bad only three weeks into my first job and I had to quit. I had a spinal fusion surgery, long recovery, and then some extra time off because of moving to the West Coast. Now I'm ready to work again (and in this state I need practice hours to keep my license) but I'm having a hard time finding any jobs that don't require at least a year of experience. The only jobs that seem to be hiring new grads seem to be nursing homes and home health. Nursing home was just too hard on my back and I don't feel confident enough to work home health - alone without any help and without any experience. So my question is...how to make my resume and my super short experience shine? How to get the interview and how to explain my over 3 year break from nursing without scaring them? Let's face it, nobody likes nurses with a bad back (but that's why i'm looking for a less paid job at a clinic). I'm just getting desperate.

Trouble with license by endorsement
The RN license was online the same day they issued it...October 14,,,they issued a correct LPN license on October 17 - it was in nursys that evening.......it's October 31st now and both licenses show in nursys.

Trouble with license by endorsement
So an update...I emailed the executive director of the Idaho BoN. A week later I received a reply from her assistant with an apology and assurance that they would look into the process. The RN license was removed from the Idaho Board of Nursing but it still shows as active in NURSYS. I sent an email back to the BoN a few days ago and nothing. Today I contacted NCSBN by phone but they just told me to contact Idaho BoN...It's like running in a circle. In the end I also sent a long email to NCSBN and now I'm waiting if I'm going to get a response. I decided to move out of state - in big part for this reason. I don't think I want to work under an incompetent BoN...plus unless they remove the license from NURSYS i could have trouble obtaining employment (nobody would hire me with a temp license I had before)...I'm not daring to apply for an Oregon license just yet (which i need to do ahead of the move)..I'm too afraid the error will complicate the issuance of the OR license...so I'm waiting until they fix the error...8 months of waiting, email, phone calls...and yeah..i'm giving up on Idaho.

Trouble with license by endorsement
hi kkaycam, Yes, The Georgia board of examiners kept mailing it to my street address - completely ignoring my mailing address that was on file (the post office does not deliver in our town). I recommend you update your address on their website...however, the verification goes directly to the new board of nursing or appropriate agency. They do not mail it to you. Idaho required NCLEX scores with GA ignored on the form and I had to have them re-send it. Find out what exactly is required in IL and make sure everything is included in the envelope. I paid $25 for the verification.

Trouble with license by endorsement
So when I called about five hours ago I was told that they would mail the new license on Monday and I would see the change online within two hours. Well, it's been it's been several hours and I don't see anything. It did not get done. I have no choice but wait to see if it's changed on Monday. Meanwhile I can say goodbye to the job I interviewed for because I have no valid license.

Trouble with license by endorsement
Nope, I'm not near Boise...I'm in a tiny mountain town that's pretty isolated. The clerk is back today and she is fixing it..On the phone she was like..ok, no big deal but I think it is a big deal. Something like this makes me question the entire licensing system (not to mention it took 8 months to get the license because she was unwilling to do her job). Oh..and no response from the executive director. I printed out all the info from NURSYS and Idaho BoN, made a copy of the physical license they mailed me as well and now I'm going to start making waves.

Trouble with license by endorsement
I called. The endorsement clerk is sick and the only person there is the customer service rep who cannot do anything about it. I just finished writing an email to the executive director demanding immediate correction. Thank you for suggesting other agencies to take this to which I will do if the Idaho BON doesn't rectify this situation by tomorrow. I'm so furious.

Trouble with license by endorsement
I am an LPN. I hold a GA license but last year I moved to Idaho and applied for an Idaho LPN license by endorsement. I started this process in February. Georgia mailed my stuff to the wrong address (repeatedly for 2 months - why look at mailing address, right?) My fingerprints got rejected as unreadable twice, FBI lost my background check, Idaho board of nursing refused to communicate with them to look into it..etc...so yesterday after 8 months I got my license...i got promoted! THEY ISSUED ME AN RN license!! I thought that maybe there was another person with my name and it was all just a misunderstanding but today I received the actual printed RN license (with an LPN flyer about scope of practice) in the mail. nursys also shows me as an RN. I called Idaho Board of Nursing but the licensed clerk is on sick leave. I don't know what to do. I can't legally practice on RN license but by issuing that license my temporary LPN license got cancelled. What to do now? This level of incompetence is mind boggling. I'm considering writing a formal complaint but that will not solve my situation today. Any ideas how to proceed?

IV certification in Idaho
Hello, I'm planning on doing an RN bridge but every school requires Idaho IV Certification. I looked and looked but can't find any! I'm new to Idaho - but when I was in Georgia there were iv cert classes almost every week. Does anyone know where to take the course? Preferably Hailey, Twin Falls, can drive to Pocatello or Boise if needed (3.5 hour drive)

Practical Nursing Program Lanier Tech 2013?
The program is somewhat chaotic. Most nursing schools have a day by day schedule ready first day of school - not this one. The teachers were ok. Susan - the program director for Forsyth gives the best lectures. Debbie's lectuers suck but she is trying. She is the best clinical instructor you can have. Beth - well, can't answer questions, during clinicals she hides from students...and is moody. Not sure about the new teacher they hired - I graduated two years ago. I'd say the program is less stressful than most nursing schools - I went to an RN school before and dropped out after missing too many clinicals due to illness and now I'm in a LPN-BSN bridge program. Lanier Tech felt more like a study vacation comparing to other schools.

Lanier Tech LPN Summer 2013
Ladies, I just wonder what your scrubs look like. We just had plain navy Cherokee scrubs with a patch on left sleeve. Btw Congrats on getting in and good luck!
